The latest on the studio’s search claims it is in talks with Dave Bautista to step up and assume the role, and even though he’s the man a lot of fans wanted from the start, now it’s starting to become more real, some of you aren’t so sure. Fan Reactions To Batista Potentially Playing Kratos Marvel/Disney Variety revealed Amazon is in talks with Bautista to replace Hurst late on Monday, and naturally the internet has been a-buzz with conjecture and opinions ever since. A lot of God of War fans seem pretty pleased, as there were many for whom Bautista was their pick for the role long before Hurst had ever been cast. “Bautista is a phenomenal f**king actor so I’m willing to look past him not being exactly who I’d envision as Kratos,” one fan reaction reads, while another posted “This is a MUCH better casting.” My favorite comparison so far has been someone comparing the decision to making Jim Carrey The Grinch. Unsure how they arrived there, but I like it. Is Batista The Right Man For The Job? Santa Monica Others aren’t convinced that Bautista is the right way to go. While most acknowledge that the former WWE Superstar certainly has the physique, matching Kratos’s iconic voice is just as important as looking the part. Those people have, once again, questioned why Christopher Judge, the actor who plays Kratos in the Norse games, isn’t at least being considered. Some have also suggested Batista’s good friend Triple H. Yes, he’s big and bald and has a beard, but unfortunately, I don’t think The Chaperone’s acting chops fit this particular bill. Some have highlighted that Bautista might not actually have the physique to match either. The MCU’s Drax has slimmed down significantly. Since he knows how and what he needs to do to get back to his bigger and more muscular form, that typically wouldn’t be a problem as he’d have time to prepare for the role. Here, he does not. Amazon reportedly wants to get things back on track by the fall, and fall is now right around the corner. It’s a particularly big headache for Amazon as Hurst was well into playing the role of Kratos by the time he tore his bicep. Four episodes were filmed, as well as scenes from later in the series. That has all been scrapped, naturally, and Bautista, or whoever becomes the new Kratos, will start from scratch, potentially as soon as next month. Creator(s) David Jaffe, Cory Balrog
