GM Andrew Berry ‘hopeful’ the Browns can sign Jadeveon Clowney, who visited Wednesday

Hopeful that we can add them to the team, but it’s still in balance.”Berry said he has no qualms about re-signing Clowney after his controversial exit following the 2022 season. Clowney was suspended for the season finale after venting about the Browns catering to Myles Garrett so he could get sacks. But in this case, a moment of weakness, he made a mistake. It’s something you talk through. We’ve maintained a good relationship with JD since, really since 2022. And I think the second thing is we had him for two years and it was certainly a lot more positives than negatives despite how it ended. So we do feel comfortable bringing him back into the organization if it’s the right fit on both sides.”He also said he has no hesitation about adding a 33-year-old to the roster when the Browns are in the midst of a youth movement. “I think you can’t look at the roster construction in a vacuum,” he said. “Certainly we’ve had a bit of a youth movement here, but that doesn’t necessarily mean every transaction is going to be a 24-year-old player or something along those lines. Other things that come into play are certainly the role and fit, financial costs, and then how it fits in the, let’s say, the broader construction of either the position group or the size of the bowl.”Clowney let without a contract on Wednesday, but the Browns still have a good chance or signing him. He also has interest from the Texans, who drafted him No. 1 overall in 2014, and Seattle, for whom he played in 2019. A three-time Pro Bowler, Clowney made all three while in Houston. Since leaving the Browns he’s had 9.5 sacks in Baltimore in 2023, 5.5 in Carolina in 2024 and a team-leading 8.5 in Dallas last season.
