Glorious Goodwood day two betting tips & preview

TUESDAY’S card may have set the tone, but Wednesday brings another high-class programme packed with Group-race quality, progressive handicappers and several runners capable of emerging as major players for the remainder of the season. The feature contest on day two is the Group 1 Sussex Stakes, where Bow Echo and Gstaad face off for the third time this season with Bow Echo coming in 2-0 up. But can the Coolmore-owned colt get the better of the 2000 Guineas and Royal Ascot winner this time around? The supporting card is every bit as competitive, with the Molecomb Stakes providing an important early test for the season’s leading juvenile sprinters, while the Oak Tree Stakes offers the fillies and mares an opportunity to enhance their Pattern-race credentials. With a Group 1 showpiece at the heart of the card and quality racing from start to finish, day two promises to deliver another compelling chapter in one of the highlights of the summer Flat season. 🏇 Glorious Goodwood day 2 betting tips 1:50 – Cannes 3/1 with bet365 2:25 – Fast Track 7/1 (e/w) with bet365 3:00 – Flora Of Bermuda 7/2 with Betfred 3:35 – Adonius 5/1 with bet365 4:10 – Bow Echo 5/4 with bet365 (NAP) 5:00 – Sir Garfield 11/1 (e/w) with Betway 5:40 – Silver Ghost 12/1 with bet365 *Odds are subject to change Glorious Goodwood 1:50 – Coral Rewards Shaker Handicap (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (3yo 0-105) – 1m4f The opening contest on day two looks a typically competitive three-year-old handicap, with several runners open to considerable improvement now stepping up in trip. Hatteen appeared to benefit significantly from the move to a mile and a half when finally opening his account at the fifth attempt in a St Leger trial at Doncaster earlier this month. He stayed on strongly to get the job done and shaped as though this trip could bring out the best in him. He does have more than two lengths to find with Bay Royal on their previous meeting at Nottingham, but Hatteen looked a different proposition at Doncaster, and there is every chance he can reverse that form now tackling another proper test of stamina. Infraad was sent off a long odds-on favourite for his handicap debut at Chester, but very little went right for the William Haggas-trained colt. He missed the break, raced keenly and then encountered traffic problems when the race began to develop. Given the strength of support behind him that day, it will be interesting to see whether punters retain the faith now he returns to a more conventional track. An opening mark of 90 could prove lenient if he can deliver the promise shown in novice company. However, the vote goes to Joseph O’Brien’s CANNES, who is worth another chance after failing to make any meaningful impact when sent off favourite for the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot. That race did not play to his strengths. The pace was steady, he was positioned further back than ideal and never had the opportunity to build into the contest in the manner he had done previously. There is a useful collateral form line through Count Bezukov, who finished third behind Cannes at Leopardstown before later filling the same position behind Hatteen in the Doncaster trial. On that evidence there should be little between the pair, but Cannes remains the more lightly raced and potentially progressive runner. A more prominent ride should help, and the sharper nature of Goodwood may suit him better than the long Ascot straight. If returning to the level of his Leopardstown success, he can quickly get his career back on track. Selection: Cannes 3/1 Danger: Hatteen 11/4 ➡️ Bet on CANNES for the Coral Rewards Shaker Handicap at 3/1 with bet365 Glorious Goodwood 2:25 – British Stallion Studs EBF Alice Keppel Fillies’ Conditions Stakes (GBB/IRE Incentive Race) (Class 2) (2yo) – 5f Several promising juvenile fillies line up for the Alice Keppel, with the principals bringing a mixture of Royal Ascot form and recent winning performances into the contest. Wild Blossom is another runner seeking to bounce back from a disappointing Royal Ascot effort. She was sent off at 7/1 for the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes and raced prominently before fading in the closing stages. That effort can be forgiven in such a demanding contest, particularly as she had created a strong impression when making a winning debut at Chester. Her early speed and ability to handle a sharp track are obvious positives around Goodwood, and a return to her best would put her firmly in the mix. Zigazig Ah deserves plenty of credit for landing the Super Sprint at Newbury, where she produced a strong late surge to get up in the final strides. She remains progressive, and Saffie Osborne retains the ride, which can only be viewed as a positive. However, the one who makes greatest appeal at the prices is Andrew Balding’s FAST TRACK. She was beaten only a short head by subsequent Group 2 winner Senorita Bonita on debut, while her Royal Ascot form also ties her closely to Wild Blossom, with less than two lengths separating them. Fast Track has since gained a confidence-boosting success at Beverley, where she powered seven lengths clear and looked every inch a filly ready to step back into stronger company. She may not possess the same level of untapped potential as some of her rivals, but she brings a solid and reliable level of form to the table. That proven ability could prove particularly valuable in a race where several are still learning their trade. At each-way odds, she looks capable of finishing in the first three at the very least. Selection: Fast Track 7/1 (e/w) Danger: Wild Blossom 7/4 ➡️ Bet on FAST TRACK for the British Stallion Studs EBF Alice Keppel Fillies’ Conditions Stakes at 7/1 with bet365 Glorious Goodwood 3:00 – Rolls-Royce Oak Tree Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares) (Class 1) (3yo+) – 7f Fourteen fillies and mares go to post for what appears a highly competitive Oak Tree Stakes, but it is difficult to ignore the obvious claims of FLORA OF BERMUDA. The Andrew Balding-trained filly sets a clear standard on official ratings and arrives with a progressive profile this season. She has won two of her three starts over six furlongs and showed her toughness once again when bouncing back from a below-par Royal Ascot effort to land a Group 3 at York. That victory underlined both her class and determination. She travelled strongly, found plenty under pressure and saw the race out in the manner of a filly who may benefit from stepping up in distance. Flora Of Bermuda has yet to race over seven furlongs, but everything about her finishing effort over six suggests the extra furlong could suit. She is not reliant on a particular style of race and has enough tactical speed to secure a good early position, which is a major advantage around Goodwood. If the new trip brings out even a small amount of improvement, she could be difficult to contain. Sayidad Dariyan looks the principal danger and brings enough quality to ensure the selection cannot afford to underperform. At bigger prices, recent Newmarket winner Planet Seeker and Dash Of Azure are both capable of outrunning their odds. However, Flora Of Bermuda appears to have the strongest combination of class, current form and potential improvement. Selection: Flora Of Bermuda 7/2 Danger: Sayidad Dariyan 10/3 ➡️ Bet on FLORA OF BERMUDA for the Group 3 Rolls-Royce Oak Tree Stakes at 7/2 with Betfred Glorious Goodwood 3:35 – Veuve Clicquot Molecomb Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (2yo) – 5f The Molecomb, as always, will be a fast and furious juvenile sprint, with several exciting two-year-olds bidding to enhance their growing reputations. Pershaada sets a strong standard after backing up a course-and-distance victory with an excellent fourth in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot. She stayed on well in that Group 2 contest, and her proven ability to handle Goodwood’s unique five-furlong test is an obvious positive. On form and course suitability, she is the percentage call. However, the unbeaten ADONIUS is progressing rapidly and may be capable of taking another step forward. He was not strongly fancied when winning by seven lengths on debut, but followed that with a professional success at Musselburgh before producing his most polished performance in a conditions race at Chester. That latest victory was particularly notable as he conceded weight to all of his rivals yet still travelled with confidence and found enough when required. Adonius has shown that he can race prominently, settle into a rhythm and respond when challenged. Those qualities should prove invaluable around Goodwood, where gaining an early position can be decisive. If breaking sharply, he could prove extremely difficult to pass. Crownbreaker is another to consider after finishing just behind Pershaada at 100/1 in the Queen Mary. That effort may not have been a fluke and further improvement could see him involved again. Pershaada commands respect, but Adonius’ unbeaten profile and straightforward racing style give him the narrow vote. Selection: Adonius 5/1 Danger: Pershaada 4/1 Bet on ADONIUS for the Group 3 Veuve Clicquot Molecomb Stakes at 5/1 with bet365 Glorious Goodwood 4:10 – Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes (Group 1) (Class 1) (3yo+) – 1m The contest everyone has been waiting for brings BOW ECHO and Gstaad together for the third time in one of the defining mile races of the season. Bow Echo arrives with a perfect five-from-five record and has answered every question placed before him. He was dismissed by many before the 2,000 Guineas, partly due to his size, but produced a devastating performance at Newmarket to establish himself as the leading three-year-old miler. He then confirmed that superiority at Royal Ascot, where he once again defeated Gstaad in the St James’s Palace Stakes. That victory deserves upgrading, as very little went right from the moment the stalls opened. Bow Echo was hampered early and found himself in an unpromising position. Billy Loughnane was then forced to make his challenge earlier than ideal and race wide, away from his principal rival. Despite those difficulties, he showed an exceptional attitude when coming alongside Gstaad, finding more under pressure and refusing to surrender his unbeaten record. Goodwood’s downhill run into the straight could suit Bow Echo particularly well. He possesses the tactical speed to hold his position and the sharp turn of foot required to put a race to bed quickly. By contrast, Gstaad has increasingly shaped like a colt who may appreciate stepping up in distance. He remains a serious threat, and there is unlikely to be much between them once again, but Bow Echo appears the stronger miler at this stage of their careers. The three-year-old faces older opposition for the first time, but he has already shown the class and temperament required to make that transition. Opera Ballo holds strong claims on ratings and could remain involved deep into the race, but he lacks the proven top-level brilliance of Bow Echo. The unbeaten colt can pass his latest examination and further strengthen his claim to be the best miler in Europe. Selection: Bow Echo 5/4 (NAP) Danger: Gstaad 10/3 ➡️ Bet on BOW ECHO for the Group 1 Visit Qatar Sussex Stakes at 5/4 with bet365 Glorious Goodwood 5:00 – Coral Charlton Handicap (Class 4) (3yo+ 0-80) – 6f A maximum field assembles for one of the most difficult races on the card, with luck in running and draw position likely to play a major role. Supreme King has been a model of consistency this season, and Oisin Murphy returns to the saddle. Although he has gradually climbed the weights, his reliability is a major asset in a race where many of his rivals are difficult to predict. Under The Twilight finished second at this meeting last year and returns in good form after staying on strongly to score at Windsor. His proven course form is a significant positive, and he looks capable of making another bold bid. However, the vote goes to SIR GARFIELD, who has built an admirable record on turf. The five-year-old has won seven of his 27 starts on grass and filled the runner-up spot on eight further occasions. Few runners in the field possess his level of consistency. His latest effort was one of the rare occasions on which he failed to perform, but he has shown throughout his career that he can bounce back quickly from a below-par run. Sir Garfield has yet to race at Goodwood, but his success at Epsom suggests the downhill nature of the track may play to his strengths. The form of that win has also been boosted by the runner-up, who has won twice since, adding further substance to the performance. His ability to travel strongly and maintain his effort in the closing stages should prove valuable in a large field, and he looks capable of running into the places at a double-figure price. Lipsink, Silver Wrath, Tex and French Affair are among several others with credible each-way claims. Selection: Sir Garfield 11/1 (e/w) Danger: Under The Twilight 17/2 ➡️ Bet on SIR GARFIELD for the Coral Charlton Handicap at 11/1 with Betway Glorious Goodwood 5:40 – HKJC World Pool Handicap (Class 3) (3yo+ 0-95) – 7f The final race is another wide-open handicap in which a convincing case can be made for much of the 20-runner field. Bobby Bennu is among the least exposed runners and arrives after being narrowly denied on the all-weather at Newcastle. A 2lb rise appears fair and there should be further improvement to come, but the market has not missed his potential and his current odds leave limited room for error. Oliver Show ran well over course and distance in May and has long shaped like a horse capable of landing a competitive handicap of this nature. He returns from a break and is likely to have been prepared with this race in mind. Rhoscolyn has winning course-and-distance form and could easily bounce back now returning to a track that suits him. However, preference is for SILVER GHOST, another proven Goodwood performer. He made an encouraging seasonal return at Newmarket before taking a significant step forward when narrowly denied by Superposition, who gained first run and was able to hold on by a neck. Silver Ghost’s latest effort was too poor to be taken at face value and can be forgiven. If returning to the level of his previous start, he should be capable of making a serious impact from his current mark. His course-and-distance success is another major positive, while the likely strong pace should allow him to settle before being produced late. In a race where several have questions to answer, Silver Ghost looks worth supporting at an each-way price. Defence Minister, Superposition and Hawksbill all possess solid claims in a highly competitive finale. Selection: Silver Ghost 11/1 (e/w) Danger: Oliver Show 10/1 ➡️ Bet on SILVER GHOST for the HKJC World Pool Handicap at 11/1 with bet365 About the author Craig Mahood Craig Mahood is an expert in sports betting and online casinos and has worked with the company since 2020.
