He joined the news team in 2022 and accidentally fell upwards into a senior position despite his best efforts. More than a decade after Ryan Murphy's musical comedy turned a group of high school outcasts into one of television's biggest pop culture phenomena, McKinley High School is preparing to open its doors once again. The original series gave audiences unforgettable musical performances, spectacular teenage drama and a cheerleading coach who could probably qualify as one of television's greatest supervillains. And now, 11 years after the New Directions sang their final number, Disney has decided there's still plenty of music left to play. Disney+ and Hulu have officially ordered a new Glee series, bringing the musical franchise back to television for the first time since its original six-season run ended in March 2015. According to TheWrap, the revival has received a formal series order from 20th Television, with Murphy returning alongside fellow creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. The announcement follows the trio's completion of a new script in September, although a premiere date, storyline and returning cast members have yet to be confirmed. Murphy previously revealed that he had been quietly working on the project with his original collaborators, explaining to Entertainment Tonight that the writing process had already begun. "I just finished the script an hour ago. So we have a script. Brad and Ian and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something."
