Glasgow restaurant to correct India map after Lovlina flags Northeast omission

Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain said a popular Indian restaurant in Glasgow has apologised and assured the Indian contingent that it will correct a map of India displayed on its premises after she pointed out that the Northeast was missing from it.The incident took place during a celebratory dinner hosted for the Indian boxing contingent at Mister Singh's India, The Home of Curry, following the team's historic campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, where Indian boxers won an unprecedented 10 medals -- seven gold and three silver.Lovlina, who hails from Assam and won a silver medal in Glasgow, noticed that the map of India printed on the restaurant's napkins and displayed outside the premises omitted the Northeast. She immediately raised the issue with the restaurant management."It was an Indian restaurant where we were having food and few people told me that the napkin and logo of the restaurant is having a India map printed in which north east map is missing and Kashmir's part is also not correct. I felt real bad about it, raised my voice against this issue to the owners. They said it's a British map that's why northeast is missing and apologised for the same. Having said that, they will change the map," Lovlina told India Today. In a video shared on social media, the 2021 Olympic bronze medallist explained why the issue affected her personally."Please don't take this the wrong way. I felt a little hurt by this. In the map of India, our North East is missing. Yes, even outside, the map that's displayed has cut off the North East. As someone from the North East, that really hurts us. That's all I wanted to say. Please keep this in mind next time. Thank you so much," she said. Boxing Federation of India president Ajay Singh, who was present during the dinner, said there was no confrontation with the restaurant owners and that the matter was resolved amicably."There was no confrontation. It was an aberration and we pointed that out, me and Lovlina. They accepted their mistake and assured us that it will be corrected," Singh told PTI.The restaurant is a well-known Indian dining destination in Glasgow and has hosted several touring sports teams and dignitaries over the years.The Indian boxing team produced its best-ever Commonwealth Games campaign in Glasgow, returning with 10 medals, including seven golds and three silvers.
