Gladiators: Ajith Kumar's documentary trailer turns theatres into cheering arenas

Actor Ajith Kumar’s passion for motorsport took centre stage on Sunday as the trailer of Gladiators: In Pursuit of Challenges, a documentary chronicling his racing journey, was unveiled theatrically. Fans gathered at select theatres for special screenings of the trailer, with several venues echoing with cheers and applause as the superstar appeared on the screen.The enthusiastic response also comes after a considerable gap since Ajith was last seen on the big screen. His previous release, Good Bad Ugly, arrived in theatres in April 2025, making Gladiators the latest project to bring the actor before his fans.The 3.40-minute trailer offers a glimpse into Ajith’s life away from cinema, focusing on his love for racing and the mindset that drives him on the track. It combines footage of the actor competing on racing circuits with personal anecdotes from his family, friends and members of his racing team.Ajith’s wife and former actor, Shalini, featured prominently in the trailer and appears on screen for the first time in nearly two decades. She spoke about the side of Ajith that audiences rarely get to see, particularly his determination to pursue his passions. “Everyone knows Ajith as an actor, but those who are close to him know that he is someone who chases his dreams and follows his passion. He didn’t return to racing just to win a trophy. He came back for those few seconds of that ‘nothing is impossible’ moment," she began her speech.The trailer also features another reflection from Shalini on what motivates Ajith to race. “He returned to racing not to win major trophies but for those seconds where he would feel nothing is impossible,” she said. As someone who has witnessed Ajith’s racing journey closely, Shalini admitted that watching him compete comes with its share of anxiety. However, she said that she continues to support his pursuit of motorsport.Speaking about his approach to success and failure, she added, “I have never seen him getting scared of failure. He has never expected an overnight success.”Ajith himself gets a chance to articulate what racing means to him, simply saying, “It is a beautiful sport. I love it.”The documentary also brings in perspectives from Ajith’s children. His daughter, Anoushka, spoke about looking up to her father for “the person he is and the values he raised me with.” His son, Aadvik, meanwhile, recalled his experience of sitting in Ajith’s racing car for the first time, saying, “I was really surprised by how he manages in that.”Beyond his family, Gladiators features members of Ajith’s racing team and racing personalities, including Narain Karthikeyan, who has represented India in Formula One. The trailer began with Ajith discussing the vast possibilities of motorsport before highlighting endurance racing as one of its most demanding disciplines.Directed by Vijay, known for films such as Deiva Thirumagal and Saivam, the documentary is expected to have a theatrical release soon.Adding to the anticipation, composer GV Prakash Kumar has announced that the film’s original soundtrack, titled Born to RACE, will be released soon.
