The upcoming adaptation of Stieg Larsson's bestselling novel follows journalist Mikael Blomkvist and hacker Lisbeth Salander as they investigate the mysterious disappearance of a young woman connected to a wealthy Swedish family. The story was previously adapted into a 2009 Swedish movie starring Noomi Rapace and a 2011 Hollywood adaptation directed by David Fincher, starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. Now, Sky will adapt The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as an eight-episode television series set in the present day. Per Deadline, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has officially added new members to the Vanger family cast, with Game of Thrones star Jonathan Pryce joining as Henrik Vanger, MCU actor James D'Arcy as Martin Vanger, and Lena Olin as Isabella Vanger. Alun Armstrong will portray Harald Vanger, Jessica Raine will play Cecilia Vanger, and Paul Ready will appear as Birger Vanger. Meanwhile, Camille Cottin has joined as Erika Berger, Blomkvist's editor. The newly announced actors join David Oyelowo as Mikael Blomkvist and Viola Prettejohn as Lisbeth Salander, whose casting was confirmed in September 2026. Pryce is best known for playing the High Sparrow in Game of Thrones, while D'Arcy played Edwin Jarvis in Marvel's Agent Carter and Avengers: Endgame, most recently reprising the role in VisionQuest. Olin previously appeared in Alias and Nine Perfect Strangers. The Vanger family plays a central role in Larsson's original mystery. Henrik, the head of Vanger Enterprises, recruits Blomkvist to investigate the disappearance of his niece Harriet, who vanished decades earlier. In Fincher's 2011 adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Christopher Plummer portrayed Henrik, while Robin Wright played Erika Berger. The upcoming series will introduce new interpretations of these characters, and its eight-episode format may allow more time to explore the complicated relationships among the Vangers. Rearrange the movies into the correct US release order. The series is produced by Left Bank Pictures, the company behind Netflix's critically acclaimed dramas The Crown and Dept. Q. Amanda Coe, Steve Lightfoot, and Angela LaManna serve as writers and executive producers, while King Richard director Reinaldo Marcus Green will direct and executive produce. The modern-day setting could also let the series revisit Larsson's themes of corruption, power, and secrecy through a contemporary lens. The adaptation previously faced a legal dispute over the rights to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo between Sony and Banijay shortly after Sky announced the series in January 2026. However, the dispute has since been resolved, allowing the project to move forward with its growing cast. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will premiere on Sky in several European territories, with Sony Pictures Television handling international distribution. An official release date has not been announced yet.
