Mechanicville Police Chief William Rabbit said during a press conference on Tuesday that the children were poisoned, while Gavin also suffered from “multiple sharp force injuries”. Steadman and Myers died by suicide after allegedly purchasing a cocktail of drugs, although toxicology results have not yet been returned. Chief Rabbit confirmed they committed the murders to keep the children away from their father, Brady Harmon, who Myers had accused of domestic violence. Harmon was never charged with a crime and has denied any wrongdoing. Electronic files, including text messages, revealed conversations between Steadman and Myers about how they would obtain medications and kill the children to “protect them”. They planned to poison the children between 10.30 am and noon on June 10, texts from Myers read. Most read in The Sun The killer mom wanted it completed before a scheduled call with the kid’s father at 6 pm. But when the children were still alive hours later, one message read, “It’s not working, we need another option.” Police revealed a heartbreaking message from Gracelynn, which read, “Why would you do that? You both won’t let me puke,” before describing increasing pain in her stomach. Later that evening, Steadman sent a further message to Myers stating, “Gracie is aware.” They continued to communicate through messages as they carried out the murders. Internet search history from Steadman’s phone also revealed searches about medication reactions, the effects of insulin on non-diabetics, and the Utah court system. Later searches also included chilling queries such as, “Where’s the most fatal place to be stabbed” and “Find the carotid artery in the neck.” Police could not confirm who stabbed little Gavin. The final message between Steadman and Myers was received at 8.41 pm on June 10. Surveillance footage later showed Steadman at a local gas station at 9:30 pm, before she returned to her apartment. Myers and her children lived in the same apartment complex as Steadman but the bodies were all discovered inside Steadman’s residence. Police were called at around 6:20 pm after a neighbor reported not seeing the family for days and grew concerned when she visited the home and noticed flies gathering around the windows. “I noticed the smell of death,” Stephanie Sweeney told WTEN. “And then I noticed when I turned that the air conditioner and the windows was all full of flies and I knew immediately, so I just called, I had to.” The heartbreaking discovery came just days before the children were due to be reunited with their father, Harmon, for the first time since 2019 following a messy custody battle. Harmon, who lives in Utah, was preparing to reunite with them from July 1 until September 1 under a court-ordered parenting plan. He tried to arrange a call on June 10, but said Myers messaged him to say the children were sick and would speak to him the next day. Harmon never heard from her again and despite numerous calls to police for welfare checks they were not discovered until days later. “No parent wants to outlive their children. It breaks my heart,” he told The U.S. Sun. Police confirmed on Tuesday that they had visited the apartment on June 13 and 17, but believed the family were out and neighbors told them they had been seen recently and were “in good health.” Chief Rabbit also revealed investigators recovered electronic files that included images of injuries to Myers and some of the children, along with messages alleging abuse. “Investigators were not able to independently verify the circumstances surrounding the alleged incidents,” he said. Mr Harmon was interviewed and again denied any wrongdoing. Police worked with CPS and said they were forthcoming with records in the case, but they are yet to comment. “Amy Steadman and Sarah Myers consistently portrayed these murders as a way of protecting the children,” Chief Rabbit said. “Whatever they believe justified their actions, the deliberate murder of four children can not be described as protection.” Comment now
