Giants release QB Brandon Allen

The Giants have released quarterback Brandon Allen, Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports.It seems likely the team also will release the recently signed Jake Haener, leaving them with only Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston at the position on the 53-player roster. That would make Allen a candidate for the practice squad.Allen, who turns 34 this week, has spent five of the past six seasons with Giants quarterbacks coach Brian Callahan. He backed up Cam Ward with the Titans last season.Allen has played 19 games with 10 starts in his career, completing 56.7 percent of his passes for 1,882 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He has made at least one start for the Broncos, Bengals and 49ers.
