Gianni Infantino opponents ‘plotting rival World Cup competition’ to ‘paralyse’ Fifa until he quits

UEFA has joined forces with other confederations and threatened to set up their own version of the World Cup if disgraced Fifa supremo Gianni Infantino refuses to quit. The Times report an alliance has been formed in a bid to topple Infantino and “paralyse Fifa”. They are considering staging their own international competitions if he insists on remaining in power and seeks re-election in March. Uefa already has a blueprint for a global Nations League, which would rival the World Cup, after it was initially commissioned in 2017. Infantino’s furious opponents have also made plans to boycott Fifa council and committee meetings, as well as refusing to ratify decisions. The lawyer has only notched 15 declarations of support from the 211 member nations since his botched project was revealed. And The FA joined their Welsh counterparts in withdrawing their backing ahead of next year’s presidential election.
