If you can believe it, Ghost Recon Wildlands is almost a decade old, yet consistent updates have made it one of the more popular and most played Ghost Recon games out there. Unfortunately, though, it is showing its age a little bit, and it's still trapped on old hardware, as you can only play it on console via backwards compatibility on PS5 and Xbox Series X. A next-gen update for the game has been a big request among the community for quite a while, and almost six years after the initial launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, it seems as though the game is finally about to get one. Ghost Recon Wildlands Next-Gen Update Officially Confirmed By PlayStation While it hasn't been officially announced by Ubisoft just yet, the existence of the next-gen update was leaked on the PlayStation Store. First spotted by a Reddit user called ImmortalGhostYT, and confirmed by TheGamer, you can actually see references to the next-gen upgrade by checking out the digital edition of Ghost Recon Wildlands. In the description, it explains that you'll be able to play for free between August 6 and August 10, suggesting that the title will shadowdrop tomorrow, most likely during the big Ghost Recon 25th anniversary stream. As for the improvements that the next-gen upgrade will bring, it's stated that the game will run at 60fps at 4k, and will also introduce new quality-of-life updates, some new cosmetics, and some fancy haptic trigger feedback for the DualSense. Of course, because it's on the PS Store, there are no details about Xbox, but it would be surprising if the next-gen update doesn't come to that platform as well. And since it doesn't seem like a sure thing these days (thanks PlayStation), the description also states that those who already own the game on PS4 won't be charged extra for the upgrade, and will be able to access it completely free if they wish.
