Ghaziabad man murdered over Rs 20, accused arrested after shootout

A 23-year-old man who allegedly murdered his friend over a monetary dispute involving just Rs 20 was arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad following an encounter with the police. The accused, identified as Sameer alias Gattu, was shot in the leg during the exchange of fire.He had allegedly stabbed Mushtaq, 23, during an argument over Rs 20. Following the attack, Mushtaq was taken to a hospital, where he died during treatment.According to the police, Sameer had fled the scene after the stabbing incident. Police registered a murder case and launched a search for him.A day later, on Thursday, August 20, a police team conducting vehicle checks in Ghaziabad's Shalimar Garden area, spotted a suspicious man on a motorcycle. When signalled to stop, the rider allegedly attempted to speed off. During the ensuing chase, the two-wheeler crashed into a garbage heap in a lane. Officials claimed the man opened fire after falling off the motorcycle.This prompted the police personnel to open retaliatory firing. As a result, the suspect sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg and was taken into custody. He was later identified as the absconding accused in Mushtaq's killing. A knife, an illegal pistol, one live cartridge and one spent cartridge were recovered from his possession.Police said Sameer has previously been named in several criminal cases registered in Ghaziabad, including those related to rioting, attempt to murder, offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and murder.He has been admitted to hospital for treatment.
