Police said the guard claimed he fired the shot to scare away a group of youths allegedly attempting to steal iron rods from the premises.According to Ghaziabad Police, the incident took place at the under-construction building complex in Arthala, under the jurisdiction of Sahibabad police station. Police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the firing and found that the shot had been fired by the building's security guard, identified as Vivek Yadav.The bullet struck the 17-year-old, who was rushed to MMG Hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.Police have taken the security guard into custody and seized the licensed firearm used in the incident. During questioning, the guard told investigators that a group of youths had entered the premises and were allegedly trying to steal iron rods and other construction material. He claimed he fired the weapon only to frighten them and did not intend to hit anyone.POLICE LAUNCH EXTENSIVE PROBEOfficials said CCTV footage from the building is being examined to establish the sequence of events and verify the guard's version of the incident. Further evidence is also being collected as part of the investigation. In an official statement, Ghaziabad Police said a complaint from the victim's family would be registered and a case would be filed under the relevant legal provisions.
