Gescom makes arrangements for safe, uninterrupted power supply during Ganesha festival

A file photo of the Gescom head office in Kalaburagi Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company Limited (Gescom) has made arrangements to ensure safe and uninterrupted power supply during Ganesha Chaturthi festival across Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Bidar, Raichur, Koppal, Ballari, and Vijayanagara districts.Gescom chairman Praveen Patil Harawal, in a media note on Tuesday, said the company’s senior officials and operation and maintenance (O&M) staff would remain accessible to the public and Ganesha Utsav Samitis throughout the festival.He said that festival organisers could approach Gescom officials for temporary power connections, technical assistance and safety inspections, and promised that the arrangements would be supervised by senior officials.“Facilitation counters will be operated in coordination with the district administration and local civic bodies to expedite temporary electricity connections for festival pandals as per Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) tariffs. O&M field engineers will inspect pandal sites before energisation to ensure adequate safety clearances from overhead high-tension and low-tension lines and check other electrical safety requirements,” Mr. Harwal said.He added that Gescom has also planned dedicated support along major idol immersion routes and its O&M personnel, vehicles and safety equipment would be deployed at key locations.“Tree branches would be trimmed and sagging conductors lifted wherever necessary to facilitate the safe movement of processions, particularly those carrying tall idols. Planned maintenance-related power shutdowns on rural and urban feeders have been restricted during the festival period. Emergency breakdown teams would remain ready for the immediate restoration of supply during faults,” Mr. Harwal said.Mr. Harwal appealed to Ganesha Utsav organisers, resident associations and citizens to follow electrical safety precautions and obtain temporary connections through the prescribed procedure. He also urged organisers to seek technical assistance wherever required.He said that consumers and festival organisers can contact the Gescom centralised toll-free helpline 1912 for assistance and they can approach the jurisdictional Assistant Executive Engineers and section officers.“Gescom’s customer care service and official social media channels, including WhatsApp, would also be available for assistance and safety-related queries,” Mr. Harwal said, appealing to the public to celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi with devotion and responsibility while ensuring electrical safety.
