Gerard Butler's The Night Agent Meets Jack Ryan Thriller Series Is So Good, It's Already Renewed For Season 3

He has also written for The Irish Times, Den Of Geek, Little White Lies and many more. It's pronounced Paw-rick, BTW. Gerard Butler's hit thriller show mixes Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan with The Night Agent, and is such a hit that season three has already been announced. Long before Reacher or The Terminal List were burning up Prime's TV charts, the streamer scored a major hit with its Jack Ryan series. A total reboot with no links to the Jack Ryan movies that came before, this John Krasinski-fronted thriller made book adaptations the hot trend to follow for years to come. Hence, other streamers focused on adaptations of their own, which included Netflix's The Night Agent. This was another satisfying blend of action show and conspiracy thriller, though sadly, it never quite recaptured the pulpy goodness of its debut series. That's why the upcoming The Night Agent season four will be the last. Those looking for a thriller in a similar mold should definitely check out 2024's Paris Has Fallen. A spinoff of the Has Fallen movie franchise fronted by Gerard Butler, the show follows an MI6 agent and Protection Service bodyguard hunting down a terrorist in the titular capital city. Not only was this offshoot a hit, it also scored a seriously impressive 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. Shadow Has Fallen Will Be The Third Season In The Has Fallen TV Show While the movie saga appears to have stalled following 2019's Angel Has Fallen, the spinoff is going from strength to strength. The trailer for the second season, Apollo Has Fallen, debuted to great excitement in July 2026 and looks like a soft reboot. Where Paris Has Fallen was more of a suspense thriller in the vein of The Night Agent, the next entry is a straight-ahead action show like Cinemax's late, great Strike Back. The producers behind the franchise are clearly confident in the new outing being a success, as the third season, Shadow Has Fallen, has already been greenlit. This announcement is a tad spoilery, since it reveals main characters Zara (Ritu Arya) and Vincent (Tewfik Jallab) will indeed survive the events of the second season and lead the third misadventure too. Ritu Arya played "Journalist Barbie" in 2023's Barbie movie. The logline for Shadow Has Fallen sees the show move into cyber warfare, as Vincent and Zara chase a new villain (played by Game of Thrones' Iwan Rheon) who has stolen a high-tech weapon from the British. It will be interesting to see if the next adventure switches genres again too, as it appears to be adding a sci-fi edge to proceedings. Will Gerard Butler Ever Appear On The Has Fallen Series? Before Paris Has Fallen debuted, there were rumors Butler's Secret Service agent Banning might make a guest appearance. There was a plausible chance of this happening too, considering Butler is a producer on the show, but sadly, no such cameo came to pass. That said, looking back on the first season, it's hard to see where Banning could have fit in. In general, season one had no real connection with the movies. This is smart in one sense, as it gives the show its own identity, while leaving a door open for Butler to appear in another movie. There are no signs of the star turning up in Apollo Has Fallen either, and it's looking doubtful the series and films will cross over in any meaningful way. So, in short, fans should not expect a Gerard Butler cameo. That leaves a big question mark on the future of the Has Fallen saga on the big screen. It's been seven years and counting since the last sequel, and while Butler appears busier than ever, a fourth instalment appears no closer to happening. Another sequel titled Night Has Fallen was actually announced back in 2020, but the attached director Ric Roman Waugh eventually told Polygon in 2026 there was no current movement on it. That suggests the film series may have quietly ended, while the focus has shifted to the TV show. At least the future is looking bright on that score, considering Shadow Has Fallen is moving ahead before the second season even has a confirmed air date.
