SPOILERS ahead about Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 3, episode 5.The most unexpected development of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 3, episode 5 sets the stage for a Big Bang Theory storyline peppered throughout the sitcom, made unavoidable in season 11. Despite the Young Sheldon sequel’s peculiar name, the biggest problems in First Marriage season 3 didn’t have anything to do with Georgie and Mandy’s relationship. Instead, First Marriage season 2’s finale set up Georgie and Mary’s fight about Fred Fagenbacher as the most crucial conflict of the Big Bang Theory spinoff, one that dominated First Marriage season 3’s first episodes. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 3, episode 5, “A Snotty Attitude and a Party on a School Night,” nevertheless focused on a whole other conflict that has haunted the franchise ever since The Big Bang Theory came out, although the strained relationship in question was never at its story’s center. With Mary and Audrey’s fight leading Missy to move in with the McAllisters, First Marriage season 3, episode 5 walked the fine line of portraying the problems Missy’s presence caused for humor and showing Mary’s emotional turmoil as a result of her fight with Missy continuing. The overlapping of Georgie and Mary’s conflict with Mary and Missy’s latest fight guaranteed that no one helped the mother-daughter duo reconcile, a role that Georgie would have filled had Georgie not been angry at Mary for dating Fred Fagenbacher. Worrying about Missy nevertheless made Georgie see Mary’s perspective, and his decision not to give Mary grief anymore about Fred inevitably pushed the two closer together, indirectly influencing Mary’s choices in The Big Bang Theory season 11. Mary & Georgie's Reconciliation Explains Her Anti-Sheldon Behavior In TBBT Paramount Press Georgie’s famous introduction in The Big Bang Theory happened as a direct consequence of Sheldon’s refusal to invite him to his wedding, which led Mary to state that she wouldn’t be present if Sheldon and Georgie didn’t fix things. Sheldon’s trip to Texas revealed a lot about the aftermath of his father’s death in The Big Bang Theory season 11, episode 23, but it wasn’t immediately clear why Mary issued such an ultimatum, as TBBT only showed Sheldon’s perspective when his family was involved. Mary and Georgie’s unexpected reconciliation in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 3, episode 5 nevertheless proved that Mary could trust in his support, as even in the midst of a fight, he understood her point of view and admitted that, despite not seeing what she did in Fagenbacher, Georgie wanted Mary to be happy. This showed more than just maturity in Georgie, something that Sheldon sorely lacked often in The Big Bang Theory. When putting himself in Mary’s shoes, Georgie went beyond his own opinion on Fagenbacher, instead giving him the benefit of the doubt for Mary, on the assumption that Fred could make her happy just because his mother thought he could. This inevitably strengthens Mary and Georgie’s bond in First Marriage season 3, as now Mary can confide that her bond with Georgie is solid, and that he will do right by her even when he disagrees. What The Big Bang Theory Reveals About Mary & Fred's Future CBS Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage season 3 has until now established that Fred and Mary’s relationship is going strong, to the point that he went to speak with Georgie about getting Missy to go home because Mary was suffering as a result of their fight. However, The Big Bang Theory never mentioned Fred’s existence or a serious, lasting relationship in Mary’s life. That doesn’t necessarily mean that Mary and Fagenbacher’s relationship isn’t important or long-lasting. After all, Mary herself admitted in First Marriage season 3 that her calls with Sheldon rarely mention something beyond what he studies, and TBBT already established that she didn’t tell Sheldon about her love life. This gives Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage the chance to explore Mary and Fred’s relationship for as long as it serves the story, as The Big Bang Theory only mentioned a future fling with someone from Mary’s church. Fagenbacher’s absence from The Big Bang Theory gives Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage the opportunity to continue his relationship with Mary for as long as it wants. However, the fact that TBBT showed Mary single multiple times hints at Fred and Mary’s relationship not surviving in the future, thus potentially giving them an expiration date in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage too.
