Georgia football set to don alternate jerseys for first time in five seasons

The idea of substance over style runs bone-deep for Kirby Smart. In that vein, the Georgia football program hasn’t donned an alternate uniform in nearly a half-decade. The Bulldogs have instead stuck to their traditional sets. That will change in 2026. On Tuesday night, Smart announced that the team will wear its all-white uniforms and helmets for the team’s September 12 game against Western Kentucky. Georgia historically only wears its classic red uniforms with white and black accents at home — and white jerseys with red and black accents for road games. Fans and players have been clamoring to see the combination of white helmets, jerseys and pants, which have only been seen on recruits during visits to campus. So Smart opted to make a deal at the end of spring football. If Georgia could triple the number of subscribers to its NIL fundraising arm, he would allow the team to wear the all-white uniforms. “I’m so sick of hearing about it, but to be honest with you, if they can triple our subscribers to Glory Glory, I’ll wear the shit,” he said in a press conference at the time.. “If they wanna triple the subs and get it done by G-Day, I’ll be all about it. Y’all get them to do it, and I’m in.” Bulldogs bringing out all-white uniforms for first time ever Smart brought out tight end Lawson Luckie and safety KJ Bolden to show off the uniforms to players at a team meeting on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs last wore alternate uniforms when they faced Cincinnati in the 2021 Peach Bowl, but have primarily only done it to wear their black jerseys. UGA also wore throwback uniforms for a 2020 game against Arkansas, which celebrated the 1980 national title team. Georgia opens the season at home against Tennessee State on September 5 before welcoming Western Kentucky to Sanford Stadium the following weekend. They’ll get into the meat of their schedule Sept. 19 against Arkansas, and from there will play four teams ranked in the preseason top-25, as well SEC opponents South Carolina, Florida, Auburn and Vanderbilt.
