Gen Alpha students stop MLA convoy in UP, demand action over muddy, waterlogged road

Frustrated by the condition of the road, the students stopped the convoy and asked the MLA to see the problemAs Chaudhary stepped out, the children showed him the waterlogged and muddy stretch and explained that they were struggling to cross it daily. They told him that children often slip and fall into the muddy water while passing through the stretch, leaving their school uniforms and shoes dirty and soaked. The MLA listened to the students and spoke to the concerned officials on the spot. He assured the students that the problem would be addressed at the earliest. The students allowed his convoy to proceed only after receiving the assurance.WHY ARE THE STUDENTS STRUGGLING?The road in question is part of the Saryu Canal Division-4 canal route leading towards Mudadiha alias Bhopalpur and Hanumanganj in Basti. A brick-paved surface has been laid on the stretch, but the road has become severely waterlogged during the ongoing rainy season. The water accumulation has turned portions of the route into a muddy stretch, making it difficult for pedestrians, particularly schoolchildren, to pass through.The Hanumanganj canal road is used every day by hundreds of students travelling to and from several educational institutions in the area. These include an intermediate college, a government upper primary school and a primary school, among others.For the students, the problem is not limited to inconvenience. They have to negotiate the muddy and waterlogged road while wearing their school uniforms and shoes. Some children reportedly lose their balance and fall into the muddy water, resulting in their clothes and footwear getting dirty.STUDENTS’ PATIENCE RUNS OUTWednesday’s incident came after the students' repeated difficulties while using the route during the monsoon. As the MLA’s convoy passed by after school hours, the students decided to bring the issue directly to his attention.The MLA’s intervention on the spot helped defuse the situation. After speaking to the concerned officials and assuring the students of action, Chaudhary was allowed to leave.The incident comes against the backdrop of growing instances of Gen Alpha becoming more vocal about issues affecting their everyday lives. In Basti, the students chose a direct route to make themselves heard, stopping an elected representative’s convoy and putting their grievances before him.Their intervention forced the issue of the waterlogged road into immediate focus, with the MLA directing officials to look into the matter.
