GCC detects, eliminates mosquito breeding sources in 4,192 houses during field inspections

RAGU Mosquito breeding sources were detected and eliminated in 4,192 houses during field inspections carried out in 11,02,385 houses across Chennai between September 14 and 19, according to the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).According to a press release, fever surveillance has been intensified and persons discharged after treatment for fever are being monitored for three days. Fogging operations, larval control measures, and enforcement action against mosquito breeding sources are also being undertaken.GCC Commissioner G.S. Sameeran on Monday inspected fever surveillance activities being carried out in houses on Bharathiyar Street and Sundarar Street near Erukkancheri Main Road in Tondiarpet. Zonal health officials and dengue prevention field workers accompanied him during the inspection.According to the release, officials and field staff have been undertaking intensive door-to-door fever surveillance and dengue prevention activities across the city. The mosquito control and fever prevention activities are being carried out by 15 zonal health officers, 15 entomologists, 44 sanitary officers, 200 sanitary inspectors, 35 field assistants, 44 basic health workers, and 3,697 field workers across the 15 zones, the release said.Field workers visit between 80 and 100 houses daily and inspect vacant lands, commercial establishments, construction sites, educational institutions, hostels, hospitals, and government buildings, the release said. Mosquito breeding sources, including discarded coconut shells, tiles, tyres, and glass items, are being identified and removed. Awareness activities are also being conducted and details of persons suffering from fever are being recorded, it said.The release said training on dengue and fever management had been given to medical officers working in 140 urban primary health centres, 16 urban community health centres, 200 health and wellness centres, the Tondiarpet Communicable Diseases Hospital, three maternity hospitals, and 10 dialysis centres.
