GBA penalises consultant, contractor for ‘unscientific’ electricity pole installation

Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda. | Photo Credit: File photo The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has imposed a fine of ₹3 lakh on a project consultant and a contractor for allegedly installing electricity poles in an “unscientific” manner at the Palace Guttahalli Junction on Ballari Road in north Bengaluru.The project consultant, Siddhishakti Pvt. Ltd., has been fined ₹1 lakh, while contractor JMC Constructions has been fined ₹2 lakh for lapses in construction quality and non-compliance with prescribed technical specifications, according to the GBA.The issue, as per the GBA, came to light on July 31 when Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda inspected the ongoing work while travelling along Ballari Road. He noticed that the newly installed electricity poles were being placed without following any prescribed standard for spacing. The Minister directed officials to inspect the work and ensure that the poles were installed scientifically and in accordance with the prescribed norms.B-SMILE officials, including B.S. Prahallad, technical director, conducted a site inspection and allegedly found irregularities. The poles had been installed in violation of the prescribed design and technical specifications. A show-cause notice was issued on Friday (September 4) to the Assistant Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer concerned.The GBA has also directed the authorities concerned to immediately rectify the improperly installed poles and reinstall them in accordance with the prescribed standards.
