Gatwick Airport fuel issue resolved following summer holiday disruption fears

An issue which caused a shortage of fuel at Gatwick Airport over the weekend has been resolved, according to officials.A memo to carriers said: "Gatwick has a shortage of fuel for the next two days... Please uplift max possible fuel at outstations".The message, sent through the Notam (Notice to Aviation) system, was scheduled to be active until 11pm on Monday.It raised fears that those travelling abroad for the summer holidays could be impacted by travel disruption.Check-in lines at the South terminal of Gatwick AirportPAHowever, on Monday morning a spokesman for Gatwick said: “Following a temporary technical issue yesterday that impacted fuel supply to the airport, we are pleased to report that the issue has now been resolved.“Fuel is flowing as expected, all airlines are operating as normal and passengers should continue to travel as planned.“We will continue to monitor the situation closely.”It is understood that no flights were cancelled because of the fault.Earlier this year there were fears that the Iran oil crisis could result in major jet fuel shortages affecting summer flights, but there has been no widespread disruption.Gatwick is the UK’s second busiest airport, with 42.8 million passengers last year.
