Games Inbox: What is Patrick Stewart’s best video game role?

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered – all hail the emperor (The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages) The Friday letters page mourns the death of Sir Patrick Stewart, as a reader tries to imagine a Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake that isn’t 1:1. He was 86 and couldn’t have lived a more full life but even so. Never saw him phone in a single role and he seemed like a really good guy. Obviously, he’ll be best remembered for Star Trek and his theatre work, but he did a surprising amount of video game appearances as well. Apart from a bunch of Star Trek and X-Men games he was in both Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow games, Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone, and Lands Of Lore: The Throne Of Chaos but I think most people will know him best as Emperor Uriel Septim VII from The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Of course, he was great in that, but I really appreciate that he seemed to be making an effort and wasn’t just doing his Picard voice or something. All the best to his family, friends, and fans.Johnson Busy new yearLooking at the list of big name games for November is so funny. The only big games that dare to go up against GTA 6 are Nintendo (not a direct competitor) and World Of Warcraft: Forever (a PC only game when GTA 6 is console only). Want GTA 6 news? December is always pretty quiet, but January is straight into it, busier than most years as far as a I remember, with Stranger Than Heaven, Forza Horizon 6 on PlayStation 5, Metroid Ravenous, and Metro 2039. Then February is even busier. I know GTA 6 is going to be massive but just looking at the release schedules, the other publishers don’t seem to think it’s going to suck up all the attention forever.Andy Full spectrum superheroI’m fine with an X-Men game from Insomniac, even though I thought Wolverine was only okay. But I hope it’s not just the same formula again. Just swapping between controlling different characters at different points in the game is not going to cut it for me. If they’re going to do a team game then they need team mechanics, which means either multiplayer or something like the old Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter games. Considering what a mess Square Enix’s Avengers game was like I can’t see multiplayer working, but I also can’t see Sony putting a ton of money into a squad action game. If it’s just this level you’re Iceman, this level you’re Nightcrawler, etc. I think it would be such a waste.Burnside Email your comments to: gamecentral@metro.co.uk Strong attractive ForceStar Wars Zero Company is a game and half isn’t it!? Just hit day 30 or so and the story really kicked in. I’ve not laughed like this at little one liners from my crew during cut scenes in any game from recent memory. Hawks (main character) is a middle-aged man and so am I, so perhaps I’m drawing similarities or perhaps this game is specifically tailored to me. XCOM plus Star Wars. I wasn’t originally sold but I’ve put down every other game to play this.Game of the year so far, without a shadow of a doubtTommyFatFingersPS: If you remember me, my cafe is doing great 1.5 years in. Now more of a brunch restaurant doing gourmet burgers and loaded fries takeaways in the evenings – I’ve taken what I’ve learnt from strategy game and applied it to real life… just wish there was a pause button. Wild about dinosI seem to have missed a memo about a new dinosaur, with a new dev diary for a game called The Lost Wild. It seems to be kind of a survival game, but also a horror game, with the developers admitting they get scared playing it themselves. I don’t know if we’ll ever get that Dino Crisis remake, but this has the potential to be something better, because if you take the dinosaurs out of it (which obviously you wouldn’t) Dino Crisis wasn’t really that great a game. That doesn’t mean a remake couldn’t improve it but I welcome this new contender, especially as apparently the dinosaurs are completely scientifically accurate.Asker Long waitGood to finally get confirmation that The Duskbloods is being delayed until next year. It’d have been nice to get a release date, but it sounds like they’re not actually sure how much work is needed and I’m fine with that. Far better than sticking to a deadline and just putting the game out in whatever state it happens to be at that point. I did quite like the Network Test but I have to admit that I share the same preference as many other readers, in that I’d prefer they just got on with a new single-player game. What I played of The Duskbloods was fun but having all these rules you have to follow for a multiplayer game seems weirdly restrictive to me. You still get a big world to run about it in but all the objectives and different stages… maybe I’ll get more into it in the final game, but it seems so overcomplicated. I know just having a straight up deathmatch doesn’t make much sense for a From game but for me at least simplicity is one of the big appeals of a multiplayer game. I bounced off Nightreign pretty quick, for similar reasons, but I’d be interested if any readers stuck with it and enjoyed it, as I heard they added quite a bit after launch. It’s unfair of me to expect everything to be made to my preferences but I’m worrying that the decade will be mostly over before we get the kind of FromSoftware game I like again.Hammeriron The second pathAs much as I’m looking forward to the Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake I can’t help but wonder what it would’ve looked like if they’d taken the opposite approach and not made it a 1:1 remake, but made Hyrule Field really big, made everything open world, and put in some of the role-playing systems and climbing from the modern game. That would have been a huge amount of work, and would have probably changed it out of all recognition, but it’s an interesting thing to think of. I’m sure they made the right decision but once it’s out people will be arguing against it, because whatever doesn’t get made is always going to seem like the more intriguing choice.Cocles Don't miss Gaming news! Add us as a Preferred Source GameCentral has been delivering unique games news and reviews for over a decade Long term planGears Of War: E-Day wasn’t enough to have millions of people running out to buy an Xbox console?! I am shocked at this news! Shocked! In all seriousness, what an on earth did they expect? Beyond GTA and Nintendo games I’m not sure there’s a single game nowadays that would be enough for people to buy a console. Those days are long gone but I guess Microsoft is implying that if they have enough of these quality exclusives then they’ll start to build up momentum and people will once again flock to the console. Exactly how long term is Microsoft’s plan? They’ve got Fable in February and then what? As far as I know there’s Clockwork Revolution as well next year and that’s it. They’ll have another Forza Horizon in five years or so and… none of this makes sense to me. It did when they said Asha Sharma had been brought in to slowly wind down Xbox but is this part of that? Is she purposefully making crazy decisions so that Xbox is even less popular? I can’t believe that because she keeps talking like she’s making a go of it and I can’t imagine playing a lie for multiple years for no real reason. Nothing makes any sense and yet still the layoffs go on and on…Janson Inbox also-ransPlease, please, please say you’re going to review 1950s football management sim The Gaffer?Neil GC: We’ll see what we can do. I had completely forgotten Nintendo announced Xenoblade Genesis for next year. It’s taking its time to get into top gear but the Switch 2 does seem to be motoring now.Moca Email your comments to: gamecentral@metro.co.uk The small printNew Inbox updates appear every weekday morning, with special Hot Topic Inboxes at the weekend.
