People have worked themselves up into a frenzy over it, as if it’s the worst game of the year or something. It has a Metacritic of 77 and not a single negative review. As GC’s review seemed to confirm, it’s a not great but not bad game – so why is YouTube full of videos calling it a disaster? Social media is just the same, treating it as some incompetent mess and another big betrayal by Sony. Like that letter you got with a reader talking about some TikTok hit job making things up about the game. It all seems unjustified and yet… it’s probably exactly what Sony deserves. It seems obvious to me that this is a continuation of the hate that has built up from fans, from the way Sony has been carrying on. Nobody’s talking about all-digital specifically, but that whole business has broken the banks as far as fan attitudes towards Sony. They might be regretting that they can’t walk the disc situation back because now we’re starting to see the real repercussions. I don’t know how long it’s been there but it’s eight minutes long and obviously inspired by the Netflix special for GTA 6. So that’s great, I can’t wait for previews of upcoming games to appear on increasingly obscure streaming services that I have no access to. I don’t think the Wolverine one is even on YouTube, so it’s not like it’s just a time delay, like it was for GTA 6. Just another part of the games industry getting worse for no good reason.Foley Change of settingI’ll also back up the praise for Onimusha: Way Of The Sword. I thought GC was going a bit overboard when they said it could be better than Resident Evil Requiem, but I really think it is. It’s definitely more consistent and tells a better story and while the action is very different, it’s much more unique in Onimusha. I also feel the open world aspect works very well and is just big enough without getting bloated. If Resident Evil does go open world – and it was rumoured for Requiem – then I think this is absolutely the way to go. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if Onimusha started out as Resident Evil 9 and they changed it later. Wouldn’t be the first time that sort of thing happened between the two series.Tony T. That’s crazy, of course, but I do wonder what will happen when the PlayStation 6 and Project Helix are announced as costing the same. They definitely will. They use the same kind of components and those do not grow on trees and there’s no chance of them decreasing in price in the next, well… decade probably. Definitely not the next couple of years. My question is who is willing to pay that much? Are there people reading this that are already committed? After all, one or both are likely to come out next year, so with a price tag like that I guess you need to start saving now. If you’ve the money and the enthusiasm then good luck to you but I know I wouldn’t even begin to consider it. And I’d like Sony to know that if there ever was a chance I would then their behaviour over the last few years, and particularly the last couple of months, has put an end to that.Dalgleish All the wayI’m a massive Castlevania fan but I am having real trouble getting excited about Belmont’s Curse. It looks really cheap and it’s anime style without seeming to have anything specific to do with the animated show. Considering Konami is making so many Silent Hill games now, and trying what they can with Metal Gear, I don’t understand why this much more famous franchise is being left to rot. Is there a chance there’s other games underway beyond just the one we know about?Cuit GC: We’ve been hearing rumours of a big budget Castlevania for over a decade now but there’s never been any proof of anything. Considering how many other franchises Konami has been trying to revive lately it seems inconceivable that Belmont’s Curse is the only attempt they’ve made – it’s likely it’s just the only one that actually made it to completion. Last chanceWith Sony stopping producing physical PlayStation discs in January 2028 I have decided to only buy physical PlayStation games instead of digitally from the PlayStation Store, until January 2028. Quite a lot of digital games do come to physical at some point but obviously not after January 2028 for PlayStation. I have picked up a lot of indie games and remasters/remakes on physical after they have been released digitally. Although not all games get a physical release. After January 2028 I will probably buy physical PlayStation discs that have already been released, to add to my collection. When GTA 6 comes out that will be the first time I have paid full price on a digital game. I will use my PlayStation wishlist to keep a track of games I would like and then go to Amazon to buy the game(s) physically. With their only being 14 months until Sony ends production of physical discs for PlayStation systems, do Game Central think there will be a massive rush for games companies and indie developers to finish making their games so they can release on physical? And do you think we will see an unprecedented amount of games released in that time frame compared to a normal year without the threat of no physical discs looming? Currently I am hoping to have an announcement of physical PlayStation 5 versions of Denshattack! and Romeo Is A Dead man. Grasshopper Manufacture has said they would like to make a physical version of Romeo, so just waiting on it to be announced. I’ve currently got their book pre-ordered, of their 25 year history, called Kill The Past.Andrew J. GC: Yes, we would imagine that publishers will try and get as much done as possible before the deadline. But Sony’s hardly likely to increase their capacity to accommodate them, so there’s bound to be very limited runs on almost everything. Bad timingIf NetherRealm is going to make a new Injustice 3 I think it’s going to be a big mistake if it’s another evil Superman/edgelord universe thing. They have to rename the whole thing and move away from that angle, because it is very old hat now. Although to be honest, it seems a bad time for a new DC Comics fighter in general. Hype for the movies is at a new low, there still isn’t a new cinematic Batman or Wonder Woman, and I just don’t think people are going to care. The cynic in me suspects they want to keep interest high in the franchise before the big movie comes out and that’s perfectly understandable from a business perspective. This does lead me to believe that we are not going to see or hear anything from the new 3D Mario game until the Zelda movie has blown over. That would make it almost 10 years since Super Mario Odyssey was released (I’m not counting Bowser’s Fury, as that was more like a 3D World 2.0). That is a long time to be working on a Mario game. It’s no secret that Nintendo are always working on the next Mario game, so by that rationale there is probably a lot they could show us right now but are holding back until then. Whatever they have in store I’m sure it’s going to be massive considering the time they’ve had to work on it. All I wish for is one thing and that is, that it is as bonkers as Super Mario Wonder.freeway 77 GC: It’s a bit more complicated than that as a large proportion – but not all – of the Super Mario Odyssey team also worked on Donkey Kong Bananza. It’s impossible to guess when the new 3D Mario went into full production (assuming it even is) but it may not have been until last year, when Bananza was completed. Inbox also-ransAlthough I admit it’s strange I couldn’t be happier that Metroid Ravenous got announced, because it means the franchise isn’t dead. It also means the Super Metroid remake rumours are wrong, because that was a terrible idea.Cavey I think Atlus are in danger of playing their fiddle too much when it comes to Persona 6. That’s twice it’s appeared in a showcase with basically on its logo. Either announce it or don’t mention it.
