Games Inbox: Is the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition worth it?

To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@metro.co.uk Ultimate incentiveI’m not too surprised to find out that the Ultimate Edition of GTA 6 is the best-seller, after all that talk of the standard edition being £100, which is something I’m sure Take-Two considered. I think they definitely made the right choice by not being so greedy – and there’s not many video game companies you can say that for. The Ultimate Edition doesn’t have anything super essential but there’s a fair amount of interesting stuff in there and £90 isn’t that much more to know you have the best version. In reality there’s no point in pre-ordering anyway, it’s all just wanting the game to feel closer than it is and kind of showing your loyalty. I’m not talking it down, I’ve made my pre-order so I understand what it’s all about, but I do think that Take-Two definitely made the right decision by using the carrot rather than the stick. Don’t force people to spend a minimum of £100, just gently tempt them to spend an extra £20.Zeiss Direct predictionI’d say those leaked Switch 2 console boxes are definitely real, from what I can see of them. So given the rumours and the fact that it just makes sense, I’m going to guess there’s definitely going to be a Zelda branded Switch 2 this Christmas. But when will the Direct happen? My bet is that it’s going to be sooner rather than later. We might not have seen any raw gameplay for GTA 6 yet, but we have had two trailers. Rockstar wouldn’t show as little as Nintendo’s shown of Zelda if it was going to be out next month. I’m willing to bet a sizeable number of internet points that the Direct will be this month, for a launch in November. What I’m not sure is whether it’ll be at Gamescom, because at the end of August that is exactly the sort of time you’d expect. But I don’t think Nintendo would want to unveil anything at a relatively minor event like that, so my prediction is… next week! If I’m right, remember you heard it here first!Gauntlett Jawas before Jar JarYour Star Wars Zero Company was an interesting read about what sounds like a promising game. I do wonder why the game is being set in the prequel universe. Are diehard fans of the original trilogy not within the game’s target demographic? With regards to Star Wars, I don’t mind the prequels, those films featured some good action sequences and a scattering of iconic baddies, but with respect to any new Star Wars game I’d rather have a story with the backdrop of Episodes IV, V, and VI. Give me a Jawa before you offer me Jar Jar any day of the week. Why didn’t that Outlaws game let you play as Han Solo, then possibly it would have been a hit. Would the developers/publishers have had to pay Harrison Ford for his likeness? The latest Indiana Jones game used his likeness.Michael Veal GC: An Andor style setting does seem the more obvious choice, but the game has a much more grounded tone than most Clone Wars media and we didn’t see or hear any mention of Gungans in it. It always seems a bit of a lottery as to whether these hyped indie games do well or not but I really like the sound of this one. I’m just worried I haven’t got enough friends to play with it. That’s not as sad as it sounds, as I think I have a pretty average number of friends but the number of them that would want to play co-op in a puzzle exploration game are pretty limited. Maybe two of them, but neither has committed to playing or buying Big Walk. I think I will be able to talk at least one of them into it and since the game can apparently be played with just two people, I should be able to give it a go. But to me it kind of explains why so-called friendslop has done well. If people, mostly teenagers, are just playing it to socialise then it doesn’t really matter what it is and in fact the dumber and less demanding the better. Something like Big Walk, where there’s an actual game there, you have to have the right kind of people where they’re willing to play properly.Jonesy It’s the best at what it does (Sony Interactive Entertainment) Special consolesI don’t really like the console but that yellow Wolverine DualSense is actually really nice. I assume the whole component crisis is the main reason we haven’t had many special edition consoles and hardware so far, so it’s nice to see this one and the Zelda themed Switch 2. So much of this generation seems half-assed and like it hasn’t really met the bare minimum of what you expect from the industry. I think Ghost Of Yōtei might have had one but I genuinely can’t remember any other special edition PlayStation 5s before this. It’s not important, it doesn’t change anything, but somehow it doesn’t feel healthy not to have the option.Sarson New retroAlways appreciate your interviews with devs and looking forward to the one for Star Wars Zero Company. I particularly like the ZX Spectrum remake one a few weeks ago and wondered if you would also be doing one for the Amiga 1200 they have coming out this Christmas? I never had an Amiga 1200, just a 500, and I think that was the same for most people. I assume they’re just doing it as a novelty and so they can get the best graphics possible, but I’m looking forward to it. I love my retro gaming, but especially when it’s for the games I actually played as a kid. However, with this one I’m most interested in how the fan scene has evolved. Making new C64 games always seemed a bit silly to me, give it’s so restrictive – not that I don’t admire the work anyway. But I think new Amiga games, especially on the 1200, could be really interesting. If you can have modern indie games purposefully looking like a Game Boy Color game then surely you can have an Amiga that looks at least as good as a SNES game? But I can’t help thinking more of what comes next. I’m fine with a Zelda remake but at the same time I would’ve been fine with them never doing anything like it. We know we’ve got Pokémon Winds and Waves next year, which after Pokopia is probably going to be especially big. What about what hasn’t been announced? Luigi’s Mansion 4 seems very overdue. The developer hasn’t released anything in years and it’s a great looking series that would be good for showing off the Switch 2. I definitely think it would’ve been a better choice for this year than Fire Emblem, so that’s a bit of a puzzle. Animal Crossing is also being handled very strangely and while it seems like it should be the Christmas 2027 game, I have my doubts given the Switch 2 Edition of New Horizons. A new 3D Super Mario, then? That would be good but then again if they had to wait till Donkey Kong Bananza was done before they started it, there hasn’t been nearly enough time yet. Perhaps it’ll be Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Switch 2 Edition? It’s even weirder that that hasn’t been out yet so who can say, but surely they can’t leave it much later. Splatoon 4? A new fitness game? There’s so much stuff that seems so much obvious than a new Fire Emblem or Kirby’s Air Ride, so in summary I haven’t got a clue what they’ll do next. But if I had to guess one for 2027, I’d say Luigi’s Mansion 4.Onibee Inbox also-ransIf Kingdom Hearts 4 might get another reveal at D23, are we still thinking it’s going to have a Star Wars world? Just played Halo: Campaign Evolved for the first time and as a PlayStation owner who has never played a Halo game before it was… fine.
