If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there. Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers. With the recent success of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon, the latter of which is currently airing its third season, it is no wonder that Game of Thrones fans are still eating well, despite the main series coming to an end back in 2019. Based on the fantasy world created by author George R.R. Martin, it has been a part of our life since 2011 (or 1996 if you have always been a fan of the books), so it is clear to see that the franchise is here to stay. As such, plenty of projects have been born from Game of Thrones' success, with one such example being Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, an upcoming real-time strategy game set in the lands of Westeros. Developed by PlaySide, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros will allow players to control the armies of House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, and even the Night King's army and make a play for the Iron Throne. Welcoming the return of beloved characters such as Daenerys Targaryen, Jaime Lannister, and Jon Snow, fans of both the books and television series will be able to completely rewrite the story on their own terms as they fill the battlefield with infantry, dragons, and giants. However, despite being originally expected to launch some time this year, a recent blog post by PlaySide has revealed that Game of Thrones: War for Westeros has now been delayed until 2027. "Lastly, we wanted to close with an update to our planned release window. War for Westeros will now launch in early 2027," the recent development update reads. "We remain unwavering in our mission to deliver a real-time strategy game set in the world of Westeros that meets the expectations of both RTS players and Game of Thrones fans. This decision gives us the time needed to continue building towards that goal and ensure that the game reaches the high level of quality we are aiming for. Thank you for your patience and continued support. We know the wait has been long, and we do not take your support for granted." PlaySide However, a delay is something that we are all quite familiar with as fans of video games, and over on r/bfme, users discussed the recent update for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, and it seems as though many would prefer the game to receive the love it deserves before finally being in our hands. Not only that, but plenty of fans were there to compare it to The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth (BFME). "You weren’t kidding about it looking like BFME," one comment reads. "BFME series are pretty much the only RTS I enjoy (mix of nostalgia, love for the IP, and relative simplicity). I really hope this plays similarly; if it was nothing but a modernized BFME with a GOT skin, it’d be a day 1 purchase for me." Whilst another said simply, "Really cool, looking forward to it. Early 2027 sounds good." So, make sure to mark your calendars for early 2027 for the launch of Game of Thrones: War of Westeros, and do not miss out on this epic real-time strategy title which is already shaping up to be a major hit.
