Martin's epic fantasy novels, A Song of Ice and Fire, were first published in 1996; showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss bought the adaptation rights in 2005 by correctly answering Martin's question about who Jon Snow's mother was. HBO brought the huge world to life in the drama series Game of Thrones spanning 73 episodes across eight seasons from 2011 to 2019. Due to its overwhelming success, multiple spinoffs were created, and now a movie will be heading to theaters. Martin's fantasy franchise will be releasing its first movie, titled Aegon's Conquest, which will arrive in theaters on June 1, 2029, as confirmed by Warner Bros. and reported by Deadline. Owen Harris, known for Kill Your Friends, is directing the upcoming adaptation alongside House of Cards' Beau Willimon, who wrote the screenplay. The title was previously confirmed during CinemaCon, where it was also revealed that the movie focuses on King Aegon I Targaryen's conquest of Westeros. King Aegon 1 Targaryen is also known as Aegon the Conqueror and was the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and the founder of the Targaryen dynasty. He established King's Landing as the capital and forged the Iron Throne by melting the swords of his defeated enemies with dragonfire. Through Martin's extensive Game of Thrones lore, it's said that Aegon was guided by a dream of a threat from the North, now known as the White Walkers, which was referred to as the Song of Ice and Fire. Game of Thrones: Aegon's Conquest will be the first time that the character is shown on screen, but casting has yet to be revealed for such a powerful and iconic part of Westeros history. More to come...
