Future announced the song earlier this week, but never mentioned Drake and Scott among collaborators The distorted, bass-heavy production that opens the latest Future single “Ya Hit” could soundtrack the beginning of a grand battle sequence in a film. Fittingly, the rapper brings out his best fighters for the record, which features appearances from Drake, Travis Scott, and Loe Shimmy. Future announced “Ya Hit” earlier this week, but never mentioned Drake and Scott were among his collaborators. In the caption of his Instagram post, he refers to the whole team as the Avengers. Shimmy leads the chorus, while Drake punctuates his lyrics with ad-libs from Sexyy Red. “Caught a ho lackin’, went took back the G-Wag’, ya hit/Told a lil’ ho, “Go and find you a new daddy,” ya hit/Been up for a week ’bout to drop me a new bag, ya hit/Try to play with the zombie, you know you get hit, ya hit,” Future raps on his verse. The single marks the first release from Future since the arrival of his 10th solo studio album The Real Me in August. “Future can’t avoid being symptomatic of a mainstream rap industry that feels artistically exhausted, too uninspired to imagine new vistas beyond the old “bitches”/drugs/wealth dichotomy, and desperate for crossover gimmicks to spark waning audience interest,” Rolling Stone wrote in a review of the record. Trending Stories Collaboration seems to be Future’s way of hitting reset. It has worked in the past, with the joint album Pluto x Baby Pluto with Lil Uzi Vert and the drama-starting double-header We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You with Metro Boomin. Fans joked that Future’s surprise release of a song with both Drake and Scott could threaten to overshadow album release day for Lil Baby, who shared his fifth album Fresh today. Future reposted Lil Baby’s album announcement post on his Instagram story in support. It’s a good thing there’s no one-song listening limit.
