But Darwin Friend, of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “Taxpayers will be astonished to see defence chiefs riding around in chauffeur-driven cars. “With the defence budget already under enormous pressure and major training exercises being cancelled, shelling out millions of pounds on taxis and luxury travel is simply unacceptable. “The MoD needs to crack down on waste and ensure scarce resources are focussed on the frontline.” An MOD spokesperson said: “This Government is committed to securing value for money for taxpayers and cracking down on waste. “These journeys involved multiple passengers and a significant amount of baggage. “As a large organisation with remote sites across the UK and bases around the world, our staff sometimes need to travel to locations that are not always accessible by public transport.” Most read in The Sun Comment now
