Few anime protagonists are as instantly recognizable as Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. Hiromu Arakawa's determined young alchemist has remained a fan favorite thanks to his fiery personality, red coat, Automail prosthetic, and unforgettable journey alongside his younger brother, Alphonse. Now, Edward is preparing for another major merchandise release, bringing a new collectible to fans in 2027. Grandista has officially unveiled a colored prototype of its Edward Elric figure, via @BANPRE_PZ on X, with the release scheduled for March 2027 in Japan. Although the character has inspired countless collectibles over the years, this particular debut marks his first appearance in Grandista's crane machine figure lineup. The reveal also happened on October 3, which is a date with enormous significance for the Elric brothers. Edward Elric Makes His Grandista Debut In March 2027 BANDAI SPIRITS Edward Elric is no stranger to anime merchandise, with everything from plush toys and clothing to elaborate statues celebrating the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise. However, his upcoming Grandista release gives collectors something new to anticipate. The line specializes in oversized character figures, making Edward's inclusion a big addition to its growing roster of recognizable anime heroes. The newly revealed figure captures Edward in a serious pose, extending his Automail arm while his signature red cloak sweeps behind him. Its design also has his detailed leather pants and muscular physique, offering a more heroic and mature interpretation of the usually compact, youthful-looking protagonist. The colored prototype was showcased by BANDAI SPIRITS through its official account on October 3, 2026. Fans have already begun discussing the figure's sculpt and overall look following the reveal. Some have praised its pronounced muscle definition and the striking appearance of Edward's mechanical arm, while others have pointed out how the design distinguishes itself from existing collectibles. The figure was also displayed as a physical model at the Prize Fair in August 2026, giving collectors an earlier glimpse of its craftsmanship. BANDAI SPIRITS The timing of the announcement is meaningful for longtime Fullmetal Alchemist fans. October 3 is etched into Edward's silver pocket watch as the date he and Alphonse Elric burned down their childhood home and began their journey. That decision represented their commitment to moving forward after the disastrous human transmutation attempt that cost them so much. Edward lost his left leg during the forbidden ritual, while Alphonse lost his entire body. Edward sacrificed his right arm to bind his brother's soul to a suit of armor, setting the brothers on a quest to recover what they had lost. Their departure ultimately leads them toward the military, the Philosopher's Stone, and revelations that reshape their understanding of alchemy and their country. Consequently, BANDAI SPIRITS revealing the colored prototype on October 3 felt especially fitting for a franchise built around the brothers' determination and sacrifices. The date is more than a memorable detail from the original manga; it represents the turning point that drives the entire Fullmetal Alchemist story. For collectors, the announcement offered an additional reason to celebrate Edward's upcoming return to the merchandise spotlight. The figure is scheduled to arrive in Japanese crane machine arcades in March 2027, although international availability remains unconfirmed. Collectors outside Japan may eventually find it through overseas merchandise retailers, including Jump Ichiban, but an official international distribution announcement would be needed to confirm those plans. For now, Edward's first Grandista crane machine figure gives Fullmetal Alchemist fans a new collectible to look forward to next spring.
