Full list of 43 areas set for £250 discount on energy bills in ‘pounds for pylons’ scheme – is yours one of them?

HOUSEHOLDS across the UK will receive a £250 yearly discount on energy bills depending on where they are located. Homes situated close to 43 projects involving new pylons and energy grid infrastructure will start receiving money off their bills from next year. Roughly two-thirds of the projects are in Scotland, with others located in the north of London and in East Anglia, the Midlands, and North Wales. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! All projects where construction started on or after March 10, 2025 will be eligible, with more than 100,000 households expected to benefit from the scheme in the coming decades. Most qualifying households will see the discount automatically included on their electricity bill every six months through their energy supplier. Households could ultimately save £2,500 on their electricity bills over 10 years through the discounts, according to Desnz. Those eligible will be directly contacted by their energy supplier or Ofgem with further information in the first half of 2027. However some properties, such as those on commercial meters, will need to apply for the discount. National Grid transmission infrastructure from Bramford to Twinstead in East Anglia is included in the scheme. Most read in Money Households located near the North London Reinforcement project and the Emmock substation in north east Scotland are also eligible.
