A NEW hosepipe ban has been implemented in the UK for the first time in 50 years, affecting 29 locations. Credit: Getty Wessex Water is the latest to implement restrictions with a hosepipe ban beginning today at 00.01am this morning. It is the first time in 50 years that the region has implemented a hosepipe ban and is now the tenth water company to have put restrictions in place. Wessex Water covers a large portion of the South West, including Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset, plunging thousands of households into the ban. Many areas across these regions are set to be affected by these restrictions, however not all households will be under the ban – it will depend on your water supplier. West Somerset is one of the areas affected by the new hosepipe rules, with areas such as Simonsbath, Oare and Barle Valley now subject to water restrictions. Residents living in other parts of Somerset can expect a clampdown on water usage, including Minehead, Doniford, Wiveliscombe, Taunton and Bridgwater. Yeovil, Chard and Ilminster have also all been affected by the hosepipe ban, as well as Somerton, Sparkford, Castle Cary, Wincanton and Bourton, in North Dorset. Most read in Money The Wessex Water ban reaches out to the border with Devon, so households in Hawkridge, Bury, Skilgate, Wellington, Dulverton and Sandyway will also be included. Bath will be affected by the ban, as well as parts of Wiltshire, including Warminster, Trowbridge, Chippenham, Devizes and Salisbury. The south of Dorset is also covered by the water restrictions, including Dorchester, however it does not affect Bournemouth or Poole. Parts of Somerset will not be included in the ban as they are supplied by Bristol Water, rather than Wessex Water, which does not currently have any hosepipe bans in place.
