Florida State defensive back Karson Hobbs, who transferred in from Notre Dame in January, announced on social media Tuesday night that he is out for the season with a torn ACL. Hobbs, a junior from Cincinnati, was expected to compete for playing time in the Seminoles’ secondary this season. His announcement comes two days after Florida State head coach Mike Norvell confirmed that the team did have a few players get “banged up” in Sunday’s second preseason scrimmage. At Notre Dame, Hobbs played in 16 games over two seasons with one start. He made his first career start in 2025 against Texas A&M and recorded a career-high four tackles. Hobbs also intercepted a pass against N.C. State. In his Instagram post announcing the injury, Hobbs expressed disappointment but also confidence that he will make a strong comeback. “I’m grateful for the countless memories and bonds I’ve been able to build since I’ve been at Florida State,” Hobbs posted. “I’m truly sorry things ended this way now without getting a chance, but I will be back better than ever knowing that all the pain, the late nights and tears shed were worth it because with God, anything is possible.” When Hobbs signed with Florida State, he said the Seminoles planned to look at him primarily as a nickel corner. “Overall, I think Florida State is a historic program,” Hobbs said at the time. “It really speaks for itself. And a guy like me, coming from Notre Dame, I see great opportunities. And I just felt like what Coach Norvell and what the DB coaches here are doing, Coach Coop (safeties coach Evan Cooper), just really think they put me in a position to be successful and achieve my final dreams of going to the NFL.” Warchant.com provides just what passionate FSU fans expect: Market-leading coverage of Seminole athletics and recruiting.
