There was no sign of its owners, just the dog, staying in what remains of the place it once knew as home.PULLED FROM THE MUDOne dog did not have the luxury of waiting.After being swept away by the floodwaters, the animal became trapped in thick mud. In a viral video shared on X, a kind-hearted local waded through the sludge and tried to reach it, but could not free the dog alone.Another person soon joined the rescue effort. Together, they dug through the mud until they managed to pull the exhausted animal to safety.STILL WAITING FOR HIS MASTERIn Rasuwa, the Bhote Koshi River floods swept away a home and separated a dog from its master.A video showed the white dog sitting quietly outside a dilapidated house. It sat there, reluctant to move from the place where it last saw its owner; a silent wait in a landscape where so much else has disappeared.ONE REUNION, AMID THE LOSSAnd then, amid all the waiting, came a moment of relief.A woman was reunited with her dog after the two had been separated for three to four days during the floods. During Kukur Tihar, one of the days of the festival, dogs are honoured with garlands, tika, food and prayers as a tribute to their loyalty and companionship.This year, as Nepal grapples with an enormous humanitarian crisis, the bond celebrated during Kukur Tihar feels particularly poignant.
