Fritz Hansen Sound Club invites visitors to enjoy music in Bauhaus-inspired listening spaces

Danish design brand Fritz Hansen has teamed up with audio specialist Technics to transform its Farringdon showroom into a series of domestic listening scenes for London Design Festival. As part of the Fritz Hansen Sound Club, the showroom has been organised into four domestic scenes where guests are invited to listen to a curated selection of vinyl records. Fritz Hansen Sound Club held its latest edition during London Design Festival The installation combines Fritz Hansen's furniture and lighting products with turntables, headphones and speakers from Japanese firm Technics. A 90th anniversary limited edition of the Kaiser Idell Luxus table lamp and Technics' SL 40CBT turntable form the centrepiece of the various settings, both reimagined in a matching burgundy hue. The installation invited visitors to listen to a selection of vinyl records In reference to the table lamp's modernist origins, the interior styling evokes the Bauhaus movement and combines 1930s furniture with pieces from Fritz Hansen's catalogue. Fritz Hansen Sound Club originally debuted during 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen, with the aim to explore how sound informs the way users experience interior settings. It featured a special burgundy edition of the Kaiser Idell Luxus table lamp ,"Sound plays a direct role in how we experience space," said Fritz Hansen creative director, Els Van Hoorebeeck. "It shapes how we move, where we pause, and how we relate to furniture, light and materials." "With Fritz Hansen Sound Club, we explore how these elements work together to define the character of a space, and how this way of thinking continues to shape our design today." The Study area pairs steel-framed desks with Arne Jacobsen's Ant Chair in a cherry veneer finish, while the designer's iconic Egg Chair provides a cosy spot for relaxing in the nearby Reading Corner. Downstairs, the Living Room provides a setting for socialising, with a turntable and speakers oriented towards the guests. A matching version of Technics' SL 40CBT turntable completed the setup Furniture including Poul Kjærholm's PK31 sofa and PK80 daybed creates a relaxed, lounge-like feel, while a 1930s drinks trolley and PK61 coffee tables encourage conversation and interaction. Fritz Hansen was founded in 1872 and is known for working with famous architects and designers, including Jacobsen and Kjærholm, as well as Hans J Wegner, Børge Mogensen and Verner Panton. The exhibition also featured a selection of other Fritz Hansen furniture More recently, the brand has collaborated with contemporary talents such as Piero Lissoni, Jamie Hayon and Cecilie Manz, who created a compact and comfortable plywood chair that can be used in a variety of contexts. A new version of Manz's Monolit chair forms part of the presentation, alongside a more compact, wall-mounted take on the Kaiser Idell lamp and an upholstered version of Japanese studio Nendo's N02 Recycle chair. Fritz Hansen Sound Club is open daily to the public until 20 September at 78 Cowcross Street as part of London Design Festival.
