Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand also exited in the first round.Satwik-Chirag exit in the first round of the French Open (PTI Photo)New Delhi,Oct 20, 2026 23:36 ISTAsmita Chaliha and Tanvi Sharma won their respective women’s singles contests but the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty crashed out of the French Open badminton tournament with a defeat in their round of 32 match here on Tuesday.The world No. 5 Indian pair of Satwik and Chirag bounced back to win the second game before going down against the French pair of Christo Popov and Toma Junior Popov 19-21, 21-18, 13-21 in just over an hour.Asmita defeated China’s Hang Qian Xi 21-18, 24-22 in 39 minutes to advance to the next round, whereas Tanvi needed 32 minutes to brush aside the challenge from compatriot Isharani Baruah.Tanvi defeated Isharani 21-12, 21-12 to move to the round of 16. Earlier, the women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost their round of 32 match. The Indian pair suffered a 17-21, 18-21 defeat against the Chinese Taipei pair of Lin Chih-Chun and Yang Chu Yun.- Ends
