Fred Warner: I know Kyle Shanahan's itching to be back, and there's no rush

Published July 27, 2026 09:52 AM While some in the 49ers organization did not know about head coach Kyle Shanahan’s accident until the team’s announcement over the weekend, others had been informed a while ago. Linebacker Fred Warner was one such individual, which he talked about during his Sunday press conference. “Mandy, Kyle’s wife, let me and my wife know about the incident,” Warner said, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “And of course, my first reaction was just trying to make sure everybody was good, everybody was OK.“I mean, it’s scary. Any type of car accident, you just never know what the severity of it is, but luckily everybody seems to be on the up-and-up and doing well. So, just super blessed in that way.”Warner added that Shanahan’s presence at Sunday’s practice didn’t surprise him. “I know he can’t stay away,” Warner said. “I know he’s given up his duties for a little bit, but that guy’s obsessed with ball, so of course he’s going to be around.“I know Kyle’s just itching to be back, and there’s no rush,” Warner added. “This thing just keeps rolling, business as usual. It was unfortunate, but he’s good, everybody’s good.”
