Four ways to enjoy your evening glass of wine while keeping costs down

WHAT’S YOUR FLAVOUR: If you understand the taste you actually like, you can broaden your options. For example, if you like crisp and refreshing whites, such as Albariño from Spain or Gavi from Italy, there is a good chance you’ll also like Assyrtiko from Greece or a Chardonnay from Chile, says Liam. He also recommends looking out for a white Rioja from Spain or Viognier from southern France if you like wines such as Chenin Blanc from South Africa. STOCK UP: Supermarkets regularly run multi-buy promotions — offering up to 25 per cent if you buy six. Co-op is currently offering members 20 per cent off when buying just two bottles. WASTE NOT: Once you’ve opened a bottle of wine, you can help make it last longer by storing it in the fridge — that goes for both red and white. Lakeland has one for £9.99. If your wine has been open longer than a week and has lost some of its flavour for drinking, did you know you can still add it to cooking sauces? You can even freeze it to use later in cooking, though it is better in a freezer bag than an ice-cube tray, as it will remain slushy because of the alcohol content.
