Four aspiring engineers recognised at award ceremony

2026 Awardees (Contributed) The Barbados Association of Professional Engineers (BAPE) honoured the recipients of the 2026 Angus Edghill Scholarship Fund at an award ceremony held on Friday, August 7. This year’s four scholarship recipients are: Nicholai Downes, John-Bernard Yearwood, Ajani Headley and Alec Kellman. Each recipient received an award of $25 000 to support their educational expenses as they pursue studies in engineering. (Contributed) The ceremony gave BAPE’s membership the chance to meet this year’s recipients, make connections, and welcome them as members of BAPE for the year ahead. Established by the Angus Edghill and Richard Edghill Families, the Angus Edghill Scholarship Fund seeks to support aspiring Barbadian engineers and to promote the long-term advancement of the engineering profession in Barbados. The fund awards up to four scholarships annually to Barbadian nationals between the ages of 18 and 25 who are pursuing, or intend to pursue, studies in a recognised engineering discipline. It supports fields aligned with Barbados’s national development priorities, from infrastructure and environmental resilience to renewable energy, water security, transportation, and housing. (Contributed) The BAPE Selection Committee undertook a rigorous evaluation process, including a review of applicants’ academic performance, personal statements, and letters of recommendation, before selecting this year’s top-ranked candidates. The awards were presented by Grace Edghill, daughter of Angus Edghill, on behalf of the families, who noted that they were impressed by both the number and calibre of applicants in this inaugural year.
