X-Men's Jean Grey Debuts New Costume Marvel recently revealed a new ongoing Jean Grey series, coming from Jed MacKay and Rogê Antônio. Amazing cover art from Nogi San, Miguel Mercado, Joëlle Jones and Ito showcase Jean's new costume as she returns to Earth following an era of cosmic adventure in Stephanie Phillips and Roi Mercado's recently concluded Phoenix series. The bright yellow and blue costume draws clear visual inspiration from Jean Grey's 90s costume, including her cowl and shoulder pads. The costume also seems to reference Cyclops' recent redesign as leader of the Alaskan X-Men, with a recessed 'X' logo across the chest. For the last few years, Jean has been on an Odyssey through space, embracing the full potential of her bond to the Phoenix with a cosmic black and gold costume. X-Men's Most Powerful Hero Officially Returns to Earth Jean's return to Earth is intriguing due to her immense power level. Phoenix saw her tangle with literal gods and resurrect her sister with cosmic powers. Marvel spelled out that Jean is currently the most powerful person in existence, having fused with the Phoenix Force like never before following the 2019-2024 Krakoan Era. How a cosmic god fits into X-Men canon back on Earth is a major question, and it's likely Jean will be depowered in some way upon her return. With the ability to rewrite reality on a whim, it's hard to imagine how Jean could exist within the franchise at her current power level. Indeed, her new costume strips her of her Phoenix iconography, suggesting she may be about to part from the cosmic god. Will Jean Grey Lead the X-Men? One possibility is that Jean will take over as leader of the Alaskan X-Men. DNX has stated that Cyclops and Beast will battle "to the death," so there may soon be an opening for leadership of the team of former villains. That's bolstered by Jean Grey being written by X-Men scribe Jed MacKay. This might explain Jean's absence from the upcoming Maximum X-Men series, which will see Storm's mutant team take over for the Avengers. Jean would be an essential recruit for such a high-powered task, implying she'll be busy with something big to keep her off Storm's roster.
