You can reach them at James.t@thegamer.com Last week, Fortnite built a digital ark to weather GTA 6, introducing a new mechanic that has seen millions flock back to the game in the hopes of winning big: the Pirate Shop. Pirate Shop tokens are scattered across each game, and when found, they allow you to swipe everything in the Item Shop over a two-week period completely for free. It's a novel idea, but already, the community is burning out, while dataminers have been unable to uncover the odds or how the system works, prompting speculation that Epic has been disabling tokens on the fly or that only a limited pool exists. Finally, the official Fortnite Status account has disclosed the drop rates and put the speculation to bed: you have a 1 in 137,500 chance of finding a token. "You asked for info on drop rates, so here's how it works. The new treasure this season is found in chests just like other items," Epic explained. "Treasure drop rates from chests are constant since season launch and don't vary throughout the day, except during Treasure Hours. Other than Gizmos, you can't get the same treasure twice." Pirate Shop Access Drop Rates Are Boosted During Treasure Hours, After All Fortnite launched the first Treasure Hours event on November 7, but made no mention of Pirate Shop tokens. The assumption was that the drop rate would be unaffected, but that isn't the case. Epic Games has confirmed that Pirate Shop Access drop rates are boosted 1.5x during Treasure Hours, equivalent to roughly 1 in 91,667. However, these odds "may be higher in future Treasure Hours." Indeed, during the second Treasure Hours event on November 7, between 9-11pm ET (2-4am in the UK), the Pirate Shop Access drop rates were boosted by 2x—1 in 68,750. Interestingly, Pirate Shop Access isn't the rarest reward in the game. That honor goes to the weekly gold outfit, which only has a drop rate of 1 in 1,562,500. Though Epic has been a bit more generous when boosting the odds during Treasure Hours, increasing your chances of finding it by 7.5-10x. Treasure Drop Rates Weekly Gold Outfit: 1 in 1,562,500 chance. Pirate Shop Access: 1 in 137,500 chance. Weekly Vehicle & Decal: 1 in 7,813 chance. Weekly Pickaxe or Backbling: 1 in 568 chance. Weekly Jam Track: 1 in 391 chance. Weekly Loading Screen: 1 in 272 chance. Gizmo: 1 in 127 chance. So, you have a baseline 1 in 137,500 chance of finding Pirate Shop tokens, increased during Treasure Hours, but a lot of people are getting their wires crossed with how RNG works. That doesn't mean opening 137,500 chests will guarantee you a Pirate Shop token. Every single time you open a chest, you roll the dice. Your first has just as much chance of landing you access as your last.
