Former world snooker champion Kyren Wilson turns to Buddhist monks after burglary horror

KYREN WILSON received spiritual guidance from a Buddhist monk as he tried to deal with the fallout from a heartbreaking house burglary. A month ago the home of the former snooker champion was targeted by thieves in a late morning-time raid. Wilson – who was competing that day in the Championship League Snooker – caught the offenders on CCTV and made public the theft on his social media platform. Yet on a recent trip to China, he spoke to an enlightened fellow about the incident – and the chat opened his eyes to the belief that things, whether they are good or bad, happen for a reason in life. The Warrior, 34, said: “I’ve enjoyed going to a few different Buddhist temples recently, trying to go a bit deeper into that side of the culture. “I’ve been curious to speak to some of the monks and find out their outlook on life. I’ve had a tough time recently with a burglary in my house. “I had a really good chat with a monk at the Wannian Temple in Sichuan Province and he said he really liked my outlook on life. “It was mainly through translation. He could speak a little bit of English. I wanted his opinion on it. “I feel like moments in life like that are such a big deal, it is about how you come back from them. He said that outlook mirrored the Buddhist way of thinking. “He shook my hand and said to keep going and that I was thinking along the right lines.” Wilson will open his snooker season against either Ronnie O’Sullivan or a Chinese qualifier next Tuesday in round two of the Shanghai Masters, a competition he won in 2015 and 2025. I was low down in the rankings and I’d just had my first son. “Finley was only around six months old. I didn’t have much money or optimism. “I didn’t know where I was going.
