A Delhi court on Saturday convicted former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain in a case linked to the 2020 northeast Delhi riots in the Dayalpur area, while acquitting the 12 other accused.Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh convicted Hussain under Section 147 (rioting) read with Section 109 (abetment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court has scheduled November 16 for hearing arguments on the quantum of sentence.The case involved 13 accused, including Hussain, Mohammad Shadab, Shah Alam, Riyasat Ali, Gulfam, Rashid, Mohammad Rihan, Mohammad Abid, Arshad Qayyum, Irshad Ahmed, Deepak Singh Saini, Navneet and Mehak Singh.They faced charges including rioting, theft in a dwelling house and mischief by fire or explosive substances, among other offences. CONVICTION IN ANKIT SHARMA MURDER CASEIn July, a Delhi court convicted Hussain and four others in a separate case linked to the killing of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma during the February 2020 riots.The court found Hussain guilty of promoting enmity, rioting, assault, use of criminal force and murder. The case stemmed from an FIR registered at Dayalpur police station on a complaint filed by Sharma's father, Ravinder Kumar.
