Taylor Sheridan is best known for his work on television, and specifically in the Western genre. However, he has a new movie coming out next year that is taking him out of the Westerns and into the genre where he first proved he was a great writer. While Sheridan made his name on Western shows like Yellowstone and the different spin-offs in that franchise, that isn't all that he does. While many of Sheridan's other shows, like Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, and Lioness, are all out of the Western genre, they still share a lot of similarities with Westerns in their format and storytelling devices. That said, Sheridan didn't start his career working in Westerns. His first movie, which he disowns, was a horror film called Vile. However, the movie that made him a star is Sicario. Sicario is a high-adrenaline action thriller directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Sheridan, and it was a box office and critical success that spawned a sequel and proved that Sheridan was one of the top writers in Hollywood at the time. Taylor Sheridan Returns To Action Thrillers With F.A.S.T. Before he made his name with the Yellowstone franchise and one year before his first Western movie, Hell or High Water, was released, Sheridan's Sicario was a major movie hit. The Villeneuve-directed movie stars Emily Blunt as an FBI special agent enlisted to help take down the leader of a deadly Mexican drug cartel. She works under a morally gray CIA SAC officer (Josh Brolin) and alongside a prosecutor-turned-CIA-assassin (Benicio del Toro). While it does share a lot in common with modern-day revisionist Westerns, it is an action-crime thriller, and it made Sheridan a star. In 2027, the seventh movie that Sheridan wrote will arrive with the action thriller F.A.S.T. The movie sounds a lot more like Sicario than it does any Western, and it also doesn't sound anything like the Westerns Sheridan is known for. F.A.S.T. tells the story of a special forces commando who is down on his luck after returning to the United States. That all changes when the DEA chooses him to lead a black-ops strike team against some CIA-protected drug dealers in his town. The idea that the DEA is going after people protected by the CIA gives this the shade of gray that Sicario is best known for. There is high hope that the movie will achieve the high level of success that Sicario enjoyed. The cast itself is impressive, with Brandon Sklenar as the commando and a supporting cast that includes names like LaKeith Stanfield (Sorry to Bother You), Juliana Canfield (Succession), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty), Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games), and Wilson Bethel (Daredevil). F.A.S.T. will be released on May 14, 2027. F.A.S.T. Is Taylor Sheridan's First Movie In Years & It's Long Overdue This is the first Taylor Sheridan movie since 2021, not including Finestkind, which he only served as a producer on. Over his career, Sheridan has had his name on nine movies, writing seven of them and directing three of them. The last movie he made was in 2021 with Those Who Wish Me Dead, a movie he wrote and directed. The movie received lackluster reviews and remains mostly forgotten. However, his other movies have been bigger success stories, with the exception of his debut, Vile. Sicario made him a star, and Hell or High Water was a critically acclaimed revisionist Western made one year later. In 2017, Sheridan directed his second movie, Wind River, and it remains an underrated masterpiece, with two law enforcement officers trying to solve the murder of a young Native American woman. One year after that, Sheridan wrote the sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, and then he got started with the Yellowstone franchise. Since Yellowstone started, he has only written two other movies, Without Remorse and Those Who Wish Me Dead. While F.A.S.T. is a new movie for Sheridan, it is based on a script he initially wrote in the mid-2010s, and Warner Bros. acquired it in 2018. It has remained in development until now. F.A.S.T. Has One Of The Best Parts Of The Yellowstone Franchise F.A.S.T. came together when Ben Richardson signed on to direct it as his feature debut, and Yellowstone franchise star Brandon Sklenar signed on as the lead. Sklenar stars in the Yellowstone spinoff series 1923 as Spencer Dutton, the son of James and Margaret Dutton, played in 1883 by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. His role in 1923 came after his parents had died, and he was one of the main stars of the show alongside Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. Sklenar will play the commando, making him the lead in F.A.S.T., and that is exciting news for Sheridan fans who watched him dominate the screen in 1923.
