Ford recalls over 148K of its most popular sports cars: Fix won’t be ready for months

NewsThe problem can cause the vehicle to suffer a loss of drive power, or a loss of function in the windshield washing system, headlights, air conditioning, or engine cooling fan. By Matt Durr | mattdurr@mlive.comFord Mustang owners are being notified this week of a recall impacting an estimated 148,663 vehicles, but a fix for the problem isn’t expected for months. Documents posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show the recall is necessary because of a problem with the wiring harness ground connections in the engine compartment. The connections can fracture over time and cause the vehicle to lose drive power. The problem can also cause a loss of function in the windshield washing system, headlights, air conditioning, or engine cooling fan. As such, the impacted vehicles no longer comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard and a recall is necessary. The recall impacts certain 2024 through 2026 Ford Mustangs. A fix for the problem is still being developed and is expected to be ready in March 2027. To correct the issue, dealerships will replace the engine compartment wiring harness ground terminals at no cost to owners. For more information, owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The recall is also searchable on the NHTSA website.Ford is unaware of any injuries or crashes as a result of the problem. The company did not offer guidance on what owners should do until the fix is ready. A similar recall was announced in July that impacted 2024 through 2026 Mustangs and the special edition Mustang GTD. In that recall, only the windshield wiper issue was identified.
