You get access to the entire game at no charge for five days, and if you enjoy it, you can buy Football Manager 27 to keep playing from where you left off. Indeed, as explained in the official FAQ, "all modes, features, and areas of FM27 are available in the free play period and there is no limit to the time or progress you can log." Considering the reception to Football Manager 26, which launched last year to 'Mostly Negative' reviews after a two-year wait, becoming one of the worst-reviewed games in Steam history, it appears that Sega and Sports Interactive are trying to win players back with a show of good faith. This free window is essentially a grace period for the community to dip their toes back into the series without opening up their wallets to see if the latest entry makes up for the missteps of FM26. Negative reviews are still pouring in for Football Manager 26, with many slamming the lack of updates and sheer amount of bugs, urging others to buy FM24 instead. It will be an uphill battle convincing the community to try FM27, given the studio's free-falling reputation, but a free period that requires no commitment whatsoever is certainly a good first step. However, it's also a gamble. If Sports Interactive hasn't addressed the feedback, and FM27 still feels "incomplete" and like a "terrible, unfinished mess," with an awful mobile-esque UI to match, those five days when the entire community gets to try the game at no cost will only serve as a warning to any would-be buyers. Then again, a free period at launch at least shows Sports Interactive is confident enough to let anyone and everyone try FM27, so hopefully, it'll fare better than the last entry.
