It comes after the Catalan side reportedly ran out of money during their £1.3billion stadium facelift. Work began on the stadium after the 2022-23 season, with Barcelona eventually returning in November last year. Yet significant work is still required as the club plans to increase the Nou Camp’s capacity to an incredible 105,000. Heavy construction remains ongoing on the stadium’s upper tier, with Barcelona playing in front of a reduced 62,000 capacity. It is understood that the club has asked Barcelona City Council for permission to temporarily return to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys during the 2027-28 season.
