Sign in to your TheGamer account Later this week, Anime Matsuri kicks off, which is a convention all about the genre with some of the biggest names in the game. Full Metal Alchemist is one of those names, and during the convention, there was set to be a reunion between the cast. However, that reunion is no longer happening, mainly due to the fact that one of the cast members has pulled out after learning that Edward Elric actor Vic Mignogna was going to be in attendance, and how their appearance was advertised. Maxey Whitehead Cancels FMA Reunion After Falling Out With Organizers The actor in question is Maxey Whitehead Goold, the voice actor for Alphonse Elric. Of course, the two are brothers in the anime, and a reunion between the voice actors would have been a pretty cool event for fans of the show. However, Goold has announced that she will no longer be attending due to the manner in which the convention marketed her appearance, labeling it as a reunion with Vic Mignogna, a controversial figure connected to the TV show. “Unfortunately, I will not be attending Matsuri,” reads the statement posted by Goold. “My participation was subject to a signed agreement that included specific terms regarding how my appearance could be promoted.” “The convention has promoted my appearance as a reunion with Vic Mignogna, which is false and was explicitly prohibited under my contract. I notified the convention immediately and requested that the promotional materials be removed. Despite those requests, the promotional posts have remained public.” For those unaware, Mignogna was under heavy scrutiny back in 2019 after being accused of homophobia and sexual harassment. Allegations included the non-consensual touching and kissing of fans, some of them minors, and he was also dropped by Funimation after an internal review after voice actresses Monica Rial and Jamie Marchi also accused him of harassment. He still has his fans and supporters (because of course he does), so he’s a very controversial figure in the world of anime. You can see why Goold would be hesitant for a convention to start advertising her appearance as a reunion with such a person, and was probably worried about how it would come across to Full Metal Alchemist fans who have since come to despise the actor.
