Smoke rise over the Gaza Strip after an Israeli bombardment seen from a position on the Israeli side of the border, yesterday. Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Sunday, Aug 9, 2026, stressed during a phone with High Representative for Gaza Nickolay Mladenov the importance of continuing efforts to stabilize the Gaza Strip and create conditions to transition to the peace plan’s next phase. The phone call comes within the framework of ongoing contacts to follow up on Gaza developments and efforts to implement the US president’s peace plan. It addressed following up on the roadmap for Gaza peace plan commitments. Abdelatty stressed committing to all agreed obligations, including ensuring full, safe, and sustainable humanitarian aid access and completing the Israeli withdrawal to pave the way for the second phase and support early recovery and reconstruction. Both sides discussed arrangements for the next phase. The Egyptian top diplomat emphasized enabling the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) to assume its temporary duties from within the Strip and advancing arrangements to deploy the International Stabilization Force to monitor the ceasefire, support security during the transitional phase, and preserve Palestinian territorial unity until the Palestinian National Authority assumes full responsibilities in Gaza and the West Bank. Abdelatty stressed that all parties must fulfill their obligations and refrain from taking actions that obstruct implementation or undermine progress. Back to top button
