Flamingo’s Razor Provides a Smooth Shave for Less—Here’s What to Know Before You Buy

3 min readFor years I’ve treated my razor as an afterthought. As a teenager I’d pick whatever was the cheapest at the store and in college I ordered whatever had the most Amazon reviews. But after working as a beauty editor since 2021, I’ve become more aware of what to look for in a razor. Namely, the number of razor blades, a lubricating strip for comfort, and a comfy handle. Flamingo’s Shaving Razor Set has been an on-and-off part of my shower routine for two years. It’s only provided me smooth, close shaves and I haven’t experienced any razor burns or ingrown hairs since first trying this razor in 2024. I’ve even stopped waxing my legs since using this razor and it’s saved me money. Normally I’d pay $75 for a professional full leg wax, but Flamingo’s $16 set includes four razor blades and each one lasts me about eight weeks—or eight months of twice weekly shaves—before it becomes dull.ProsClose, comfortable shaveEffective with and without shaving creamAloe and shea butter lubricating stripClose shave with 5 stainless steel bladesIncludes 4 refills and 1 shower holderAvailable in 7 colorsConsShould replace the head once it starts tugging when you shave—or around 4-6 weeksIts Combines Style With FunctionFlamingo’s razors look good and are comfortable to use. The razor is available in seven colorways, ranging from Matcha Green and Electric Orchid to Flamingo Pink. Each razor features five sharp blades that are mounted on a flexible head that helps me shave those hard-to-reach spots like the curves of my knees and back of my legs. Plus, each cartridge is surrounded by shea butter and aloe strips to help prevent razor burn and irritation.SHOP FLAMINGO’S RAZOR SETFlamingo Works With and Without Shaving CreamSo dermatologists advise using shaving cream for the smoothest and safest shave. However, I know that’s not always realistic for everyone, myself included. Case in point: I’m currently staying at the Royalton Vessence Barbados and forgot to pack a mini shaving cream in my TSA-compliant bag. Whoops. Thankfully, I used the hotel’s thick gel body wash in a pinch and it worked as a temporary hack. Flamingo also makes its own shaving cream, but I do enjoy using products from eos, Billie Shave Glaze, and classic Skintimate.SHOP FLAMINGO’S RAZOR SETTL;DR: Is Flamingo’s Razor Worth It?After two years of on-and-off testing, Flamingo still makes my favorite razor. Its sharp blades that don’t tug or pull at my sensitive skin elevate Flamingo to the top of my shower routine. The brand suggests replacing the blades every four to six weeks, but TBH I can go way longer since I’m just shaving my legs. Typically each blade lasts me closer to eight weeks, so a regular four-pack of blades lasts me approximately 32 weeks before becoming dull. Plus, this razor set is comfy to use while shaving from my underarms down to my ankles. It curves along my kneecaps and pits with ease, and it hasn’t caused any nicks or ingrown hairs along my bikini line.I’ll continue using Flamingo on my legs, and at just $16, you can also enjoy the Flamingo Razor Set, which includes the razor, four blades, and a holder that fits neatly in cramped spaces like my New York City shower.SHOP FLAMINGO’S RAZOR SETMy Other Favorite Hair Removal ToolsCurious about my other trusted hair removal tools?
