Five MSF Kasaragod district committee office-bearers resign citing unilateral decision-making by leadership

The Muslim Students Federation (MSF) Kasaragod district committee appears to face an organisational crisis after five key office-bearers resigned en masse, alleging that the district president and general secretary were taking unilateral decisions without consulting the district council or other office-bearers.Those who resigned include treasurer Sarfaraz Banthiyod, vice-presidents Jamsheer Mogral and Murshid Mogral and secretaries Bilal Arikadi and Ansar Vorkady.The simultaneous resignation of the five senior functionaries has triggered concerns over the functioning of the district unit.The immediate dispute reportedly centres on the appointment of a district representative to the MSF State committee. The resigned leaders alleged that the district president and general secretary bypassed decisions taken by the district council while proceeding with the appointment.They further alleged that the name of former district general secretary Savad Angadimugar was deliberately excluded from consideration for the post despite the district council’s decisions.In the resignation letters, the office-bearers criticised the district leadership for taking organisational decisions without properly communicating with district-level office-bearers or holding collective discussions.They alleged that instead of consulting office-bearers at different levels and considering the views of activists, important decisions were being taken by only a few individuals.The resigned leaders said “such a style of functioning was unacceptable” and called for an end to “practices that could strengthen factional or sectarian tendencies” within the organisation. They also demanded that the views of grassroots activists be given due importance.The mass resignation has put the spotlight on the MSF’s State leadership and whether it will intervene to resolve the escalating organisational dispute.The district president and the general secretary have not yet issued their response to the allegations that prompted the resignations.
